Schroeder's Ferranti doesn't skip a beat behind the plate

Phil Ferranti crouched behind home plate. Despite temperatures hovering in the low 90s, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound soon-to-be senior looked comfortable clad in face mask, chest protector and shin guards. And why not. He was, after all, in familiar territory.

After catching just 14 innings during the spring high school season, Ferranti returned to catcher as a part of the Genesee Valley squad in Prep Baseball Report’s 2016 New York State Games. He didn’t skip a beat. With a pop time hovering around two and a position velocity at 78, Ferranti manned the dish for an undefeated team.

“The only adjustments I had to make were getting my feet back under me and making sure I was comfortable behind the plate with framing and stuff,” Ferranti said recently. “All winter I kept myself pretty loose with catching. I would still work on the fundamentals. I knew I’d be catching over the summer.”
