With 2023 now in the past, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage that can be found anywhere in 2024. Starting in February, we began releasing team previews for squads across the state. Ahead, we will have Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings coming your way.

2024 Spring Team Preview: University School Preppers

Team Name: University School Preppers
Head Coach: Rob McNerney
Division: I
2023 Record: 24-8
2023 Tourney Finish: Regional Finals loss to Walsh Jesuit
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 4/4

Coach Outlook: "The 2023 season was the best in school history, breaking the previous record for wins (23, set in 2022) with 24. An incredible senior class finished their three-year career with 64 wins. Losing 8 seniors (5 starters) will be a very challenging task. Those young men meant a great deal to our program on and off the field. Despite a senior-heavy roster, many young players were able to gain a lot of valuable experience. We will lean on captains Riley Penn (4 year starter), Joey Zigman (4 year starter) and Aaron Moss (junior and 3 year starter). We expect really big jumps from junior Tucker Greer and sophomore Deacon Nelson (Virginia commit). Senior pitcher Tommy Blossom came out of nowhere last year to go 3-0 with 1 save in 22 innings and will be counted on heavily in 2024."

  • Riley Penn, OF/LHP, 2024, 6'2", 170, L/L. Will be a 4 year starter, team captain, has an Ivy League offer. .397 AVG, 4 2B, 2 3B, 20 RBI, 29 R, 19 SB. 3-1, 4.01 ERA, 37K, 24BB.
  • Deacon Nelson, SS/RHP, 2026, 6", 175, L/R. Virgina recruit. .392 AVG, 8 2B, 2 3B, 33RBI, 33R, 12SB. 2-0, 1.75ERA, 24K, 16BB.
  • Joey Zigman, C/3B, 2024, 5'10", 190, R/R. Will be a 4 year starter, team captain, Marietta recruit. .340 AVG, 3 2B, 15RBI, 21R, 5 SB.
  • Aaron Moss, SS/RHP, 2025, 5'8", 165, R/R. Will be a 3 year starter, team captain. .283 AVG, 1 2B, 1 3B, 14RBI, 12R, 6 SB. 5-2, 3.80 ERA, 34K, 8BB.
  • Tommy Blossom, RHP, 2024, 6'3", 185, R/R. Will be a 2 year starter. 22IP, 3-0, 1 SV, .636 ERA, 16K, 3BB.

Class of 2025 Prospects To Keep Eye On:

  • Aaron Moss
  • Lucas Clavijo - moved to Ohio from Atlanta, GA. INF/RHP. 5'11" and 165. Will be counted on for infield and pitching depth. Big addition to our offense.
  • Tucker Greer, 1B, 6'2", 200. .275 AVG in 2023 with 15RBI. Has added a lot of physicality to his game and adjusted his swing.
