9 to Know - 2022's to Follow 

Josh Williams OF / 2B / West Florence, SC / 2022

5-foot-8, 190-pound solid frame, strong proportional build with moderate projection remaining. The left-handed hitter posted a strong exit velocity of 90mph (tee). Begins in an athletic stance, has a smooth load and uses a small leg kick to initiate his swing. Displayed electric bat speed, a flat swing plane and extension on his finish. Found some barrels with loud contact during his rounds, pull side heavy. Gap to gap approach. In the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 76 mph with avg carry and good accuracy; has a fluid exchange, soft hands and smooth footwork. Had a long arm action with a ¾ slot. He showed his athleticism during the event with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.97.

 

 

Trace Thompson OF / RHP / York Comprehensive, SC / 2022

Projectable 6-1, 155lb frame. Sloped shoulders and length throughout will allow him to continue filling into the frame as he matures. 7.26 sixty time. 73 mph outfield velocity. 82 mph exit velocity (tee). Balanced stance with the bat rested on the shoulder and a relaxed hand set. Shifts the weight down and back to initiate the load. Knee to knee stride with medium length lifts the hands and pushes them back to a position over the back foot. Slightly uphill path. Abbreviated hip turn. Quick with the top hand at times. Line drives with avg. carry during BP. Two handed finish. Corner OF profile. Solid avg. first step reads. Fields the ball outside of the left foot and funnels to a high transfer at the shoulder. Longer arm action and avg carry with good accuracy.

 

 

Tynan McGonigle OF / RHP / Belton-Honea Path, SC / 2022

6-foot, 165-pound athletic frame with a good mix of present strength and projectibility, has added some lean strength since the NC/SC Border Battle; OF/RHP. Exit velocity was 77 mph. Setup consisted of tall stance and a quick load. Pushes the hands back and times it up with a medium stride and quick tempo, seems rushed at times.  Shows quick hands and good bat speed with a slightly uphill bat path, and he ends his swing with a high finish. Developing pop to the pullside.  His best position velocity in the outfield was 71 mph. Showed a high ¾ slot with a long arm action. In the 60-yard dash, he recorded a time of 7.39. Projectable corner OF profile.

 

 

Jack Killelea C / OF / Legion Collegiate , SC / 2022

5-foot-9, 155-pound lean frame; C/OF. The right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 86 mph (tee). Had a smooth load then used a medium leg kick.  Has a level swing plane, as well as quick bat speed and a high finish. On time often and uses the whole field, driving balls from line to line. While catching, he produced a pop time of 2.00-2.14; Showing very consistent accuracy to the bag, he used a high ¾ slot and a consistent arm action. During the event, he clocked a 60 time of 7.79

 

 

Andrew Cotten RHP / 1B / P27 Baseball Academy, SC / 2022

Big, strong right-handed pitcher at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds. Had an impressive showing on the mound. Loose arm and effortless that works for a low-¾ slot. Fastball shows a lot of action from the slot; heavy sink and run. Fastball sat 82-84 and paired it with a slurve-like breaking ball at 72-75. Did not seem affected by runners on base; competitive pitcher.

 

 

Qwinton Bennett OF / RHP / Springvalley, SC / 2022

5-foot-8, 165-pound athletic frame; OF/RHP. The right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 81 mph (tee). Setup is comprised of a big load and open wide stance. Has quick bat speed, a flat swing plane and a high finish. In the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 85 mph; had a developing exchange, quick footwork and sure hands. Showed a high ¾ slot and a compact arm action with some accuracy to the base. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked atime of 7.10. On the mound, showed quick arm speed, he used a high ¾ arm angle and a short arm action. He showed the ability to locate his curveball for a strike at 72-73 mph; curveball had sharp downer action with power potential. His fastball was 80-82 mph; and topped out at 83 mph; which showed occasional accuracy and life through the zone.

 

 

Jonathan Douglas SS / 2B / Legion Collegiate Academy , SC / 2022

5-foot-6, 135-pound lean frame. The right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 76 mph (tee). Begins in a closed stance, has a smooth load and uses a medium leg kick before his swing. Has a level swing plane and high finish. Base hit approach. The slick fielding infielder had a position velocity of 70 mph; has soft hands, a twitchy exchange and athletic footwork. Laterally, movements are athletic with play making ability at the edges of his range. Had a ¾ slot and a loose arm action with consistent accuracy to the base. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.26.

 

 

Owen Austin LHP / 1B / Wren, SC / 2022

5-foot-11, 155-pound; LHP/1B. On the mound, using a long arm action he showed above avg. arm speed from an over-the-top arm angle. He is a tall-and-fall type pitcher that is linear throughout his motion and uses mild effort in his delivery. Ceiling his high. He produced a fastball that came in at 80-82 mph; and topped out at 83 mph; which had consistent accuracy and slight arm side life. He threw his curveball with consistency at 71-73 mph; shows some two tier action on his 1/7  curveball. His changeup regularly came in at velocities of 74-75mph. With matching hand speed and good deception. 

 

 

Michael Adams OF / RHP / Fox Creek, SC / 2022

6-foot-2, 175-pound athletic build with upside and substantial projection remaining ; OF/RHP. The right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 75 mph. Had a short wrap in the load & a short stride, good balance throughout.  Displays above average bat speed and a flat swing plane that is slightly uphill at contact, and he ends his swing with a high finish. Flashes of good pop present, pullside tendencies. In the outfield, his best throws to the infield topped out at 67 mph with some fade. He used quick exchange at the midsection and an athletic pro step to get the ball out from an OTT slot. He performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.83 with an easy running gate and long strides.
