The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

FRESHMEN TO FOLLOW

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Arlington Heights Yellowjackets, under second-year Head Coach Travis Rose, bring back a veteran squad for 2024 looking for another 5A playoff berth. Defense looks to be the strength of the 2024 Yellowjackets, but with the pieces they have returning and bringing in on the mound, pitching could end up being a strength by season’s end.

Leading the Yellowjackets will be senior INF Javier Alvarez, who is committed to playing college ball at Rose State College. An uncommitted senior duo also returns this season for Arlington Heights as well in C/INF Alex Olguin and INF/OF Anthony Lara, with both players being versatile enough to play multiple positions for the Yellowjackets. Joining the Yellowjackets’ varsity senior class in 2024 will be Wabash College commit RHP/OF Grant Fackel, who should be one of a few two-way players for the team this spring.

The Junior class in particular brings back three two-way players from 2023 in OF/LHP Noah Castillo (uncommitted), OF/RHP Mitchell Carpenter (uncommitted), and INF/RHP Morgan Garrett (uncommitted). Garrett was at our Dallas Summer Open in August, and really impressed all around in front of our scouts at the event. This trio gives Coach Rose some flexibility with how he manages the roster thanks to their versatility as two-way players. Arlington Heights also brings back a junior pair that played on varsity last season as sophomores in C/CIF Caleb Eagar (2025; uncommitted) and INF/C Scooter New (2025; uncommitted).

After nearly winning 30 games in 2023, the Yellowjackets bring back a bunch of guys from that team that should lead to another strong season in 2024 within the 5A class.
