The calendar has flipped to 2024 and with the summer season on the horizon, Prep Baseball - Alberta will be making its rounds to facilities and practices looking for those players who have made the jump and improved over the offseason. Our staff will be putting together weekly Scouting Blogs to highlight those players who are seeking to make an impact when their season kicks off.

Tanner Morrow 3B / 1B / St. Joseph, AB / 2024

At 6-foot-3, 200-pounds, Morrow is one of the more physical hitters in his class. The corner infielder has shown the ability in the box to put the barrel on the ball and use the entire field. The main difference for Morrow since the fall is that he has added twitch and improved his hand/bat speed while still maintaining that bat-to-ball ability. It will be interesting to see Morrow’s new metrics at the St. Joseph’s Academy Scout Day in March.

Nathan Vennard OF / 3B / St. Joseph , AB / 2026Vennard impressed us back in December when we saw him at the Holiday Hitters event in Calgary. He showed impressive bat-to-ball skills with one of the more consistent rounds of the day. Since then, he has shown major growth with added strength and twitch in the bat. The added twitch to an already athletic frame allows to drive the ball with authority. With bat speed already north of 71 mph, we will only see that number, among other metrics, continue to improve.

Owen Coumont C / 3B / St. Josephs Academy , AB / 2026

The 2026 catcher has been flying under the radar over the last year. Despite his small stature, Coumont shows present strength and twitch in the box with an aggressive, but under control approach. His swing path allows him to elevate, and added strength, maturity will allow him to drive the ball with more authority. Coumont stands out behind the dish as well, with his ability to move well and control the running game. A quick transfer is already there, and arm strength will come as he continues to develop.
