Unsigned Senior Games: Infield & Catcher Analysis

Over 20 uncommitted prospects from the 2020 graduating class took the field at Harford CC earlier this month to showcase their skills in a pro-style workout, batting practice, and live game. College coaches from around the region and PBR Maryland staff were on hand to get one last look as the summer season came to a close. Below are evaluations on the seven infield and three catching prospects that participated. Stay tuned throughout the week for complete analysis of all players from the event. 

 

THE Middle INFIELDERS


Tyler Hayden RHP / 2B / Bohemia Manor, MD / 2020

Strong, athletic body type and 5’11’’, 185 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, square stance at the plate. Smooth back load creating nice hand separation. Slightly uphill swing path showing quick hands and bat speed through the hitting zone. Stays behind the ball well with strong lower half involvement. Finishes swing with one hand and recorded an 84 mph exit velocity. Easy swing and a nice gap-to-gap line drive approach with power to the alleys. Plays with active feet in the infield and works through the ball gaining ground on throws to first base. Fields the ball out in front funneling to chest from a solid, athletic base. Showed a smooth exchange and transfer on double play feeds from short. Throws from a three-quarter slot at 82 mph across the diamond. Ran a 7.58 60-yard time.


Arrius Lovette 2B / SS / C. Milton Wright, MD / 2020

Strong, athletic body type and 5’8’’, 160 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, square stance at the plate. Small leg kick load and short, slightly uphill swing path. Stays behind the ball well showing quick hands and fast bat speed through the zone. Strong lower half involvement and nice extension through contact. Strong finish and maintains good balance throughout. Recorded an 81 mph exit velocity. Showed a more pull-side approach during BP with some power present. Rangy and is light on his feet moving well in the infield. Fields the ball out in front and works through it well gaining ground on throws to first. Clean exchange on double play feed from short. Throws with short arm action from a three-quarters slot at 73 mph across the diamond. Ran a 7.52 60-yard time.


Austin Oliver SS / 2B / Elkton , MD / 2020

Athletic body type and 5’11’’, 160 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance at the plate. Smooth back load with a small leg kick used for timing. Creates some hand separation and stays short to the ball with a more level swing path. Generates some lower half involvement and showed quick hands and bat speed through the zone. Stays behind the ball with nice extension and a one-handed finish. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter with occasional pop. Recorded an 87 mph exit velocity. Moves well at third and sets up to the ball with a nice athletic base. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 80 mph across the diamond. Also showed the ability to make plays on the run and throw from various arm angles. Ran a 7.37 60-yard time.

 

 

The Corner Infielders


Briar Castellow LHP / 1B / Catoctin, MD / 2020

Athletic body type and 5’11’’, 155 pound frame. Hits from the left side in a balanced, athletic, open stance. Smooth back load with some hand separation. Short, level swing path that gets slightly uphill at times. Attacks the ball with intent and showed quick hands and bat speed through the hitting zone. Explosive lower half involvement and a strong two-handed finish. Very nice line drive approach at the plate using the whole field with ease. Showed occasional pop to the pull side and recorded an 80 mph exit velocity. Moves very well around the base at first and works through the ball. Fields it out in front from an athletic setup. Quick, clean exchanges to second on double play feeds. Throws with short arm action from a three-quarter slot at 71 mph. Ran a 7.51 60-yard time.


Kody Clausius 1B / OF / Avon Grove High School, PA / 2020

Athletic body type and projectable 6’1’’, 184 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance from the left side with some hand rhythm. Short back load creating nice hand separation. Stays short to the ball with an uphill swing path. Stays behind the ball well and showed quick bat speed through the zone. Generates strong lower half involvement and gets good extension through contact. Strong two-handed finish and recorded an exit velocity of 85 mph. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter with some present pull-side power. Works through the ball at first base and fields the ball out in front. Gains ground and showed quick, clean exchanges to second on double play feeds. Throws with short arm action from a three-quarter slot at 68 mph. Ran a 7.40 60-yard time.


Alex Lawson RHP / 1B / Glenelg, MD / 2020

Solid body type and 6’7’’, 200 pound frame. Hits from a tall, relaxed, open stance at the plate. Creates some hand separation and uses a toe-tap load for rhythm and timing. Short, level swing path and quick bat speed. Generates some lower half involvement and recorded an 84 mph exit velocity. Showed a pull-side approach at the plate during BP squaring up several line drives. Also showed some power with more projected. Works through the ball at first and fields it out in front funneling to chest. Quick, clean exchanges to second base on double play feeds. Throws with long arm action from a high three-quarters slot at 80 mph. Ran a 7.96 60-yard time. 


Michael Marsh II 1B / 3B / Mount St. Joseph, MD / 2020

Strong, solid body type and 5’9’’, 210 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance at the plate. Small leg kick load and showed some hand separation. Front foot lands closed cutting hip rotation short. Attacks the ball with intent and a level swing path with quick hands, and fast bat speed. Stays behind the ball well and gets good extension past contact. Strong finish recording an 84 mph exit velocity on the day. Gap-to-gap approach with strength present. Works through the ball at first from a strong, athletic base. Fields the ball out in front and funnels to chest. Taps glove in exchange on throws to third but is quick and clean on double play feeds showing nice, quick footwork. Throws with short arm action from a three-quarter slot at 67 mph. Ran a 7.58 60-yard time.

 

 

THe Catchers


Jake Fallers C / Archmere Academy, DE / 2020

Big, solid body type and 5’10’’, 210 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance at the plate. Smooth back load and loose hands. Creates some hand separation in load and attacks the ball with intent. Short to the ball with a more level swing path. Generates strong lower half involvement and quick bat speed through the zone. Has a tendency to get out on front side. Recorded a 91 mph exit velocity. Power type hitter with strength present at the plate. Quick side-step squaring shoulders to second base on pops. Gains ground on throws and showed accuracy. Quick, clean exchanges throwing with short arm action from a three-quarters slot at 74 mph. Pop times ranged 2.06 - 2.22. Ran a 8.14 60-yard time.


Zachary Geesaman C / 3B / Atholton, MD / 2020

Strong, athletic body type and projectable 6’0’’, 195 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance at the plate. Medium sized leg kick load creating nice hand separation. Short, level swing path with quick hands and fast bat speed. Explosive lower half involvement, excellent balance, and a strong one-handed finish. Recorded an 87 mph exit velocity. Present gap-to-gap power. Took two solid rounds of BP shooting gaps and sending two over the wall. Receives the ball well behind the plate and showed quick footwork, and quick, clean exchanges on throws to second base. Throws were accurate with carry at 78 mph. Short arm-action throwing from a mid three-quarter slot. Pop times ranged  1.90 - 2.02. Moves well at third setting up to the ball with a strong, athletic base. Fields the ball out in front funneling to chest and gains ground on throws. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 79 mph.


Jacob Saylor C / 2B / Walkersville , MD / 2020

Athletic body type and 5’9’’, 165 pound frame. Hits from a tall, balanced, square stance at the plate. Short, quick load and stride. Creates some hand separation and showed quick hands and bat speed through the zone. Stays behind the ball well and generates strong lower half involvement. Maintains nice balance throughout the swing and finishes strong. Great middle of the field approach. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter with occasional pop. Recorded a 78 mph exit velocity. Gains ground on throws to second base and showed good accuracy. Clean exchanges throwing with longer arm action from a lower three-quarter slot at 72 mph. Pop times ranged 2.07 - 2.16. Ran a 7.08 60-yard time.
