Murphy thrived on big stage

Many things separated Ryan Murphy (2017) from other right-handed pitchers at Prep Baseball Report’s 2016 New York State Games. One cannot simply point to his “bulldog” mentality, his durability, or even his “stuff” as sole reasons why he stood out. Regardless, Murphy made a name for himself as a complete pitcher during the event.

In his one appearance, the Roy C. Ketcham rising senior started and went four innings, and retired the last seven batters he faced.

“I felt really good going into the game. A lot of adrenaline was pumping,” said Murphy, who competed for the Hudson Valley region during the event. “I knew the guys I would be facing were really good players because they were invited to this showcase. So I knew it was going to be tough, and I was really happy with the way I pitched.”
