Josh Burgman has stepped up in a big way over the last year.

From the second-annual Tournament 12 to the third, currently underway at Rogers Centre, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound right-hander joined the Canadian Junior National Team and has been on trips with Team Canada to Orlando, Fla., twice, St. Petersburg, Dominican Republic, Australia, and then finally to the U18 World Cup in Japan earlier this month.

The Canadian squad was without Mike Soroka on the final trip, who had previously been the ace for the team. The native of Calgary, Alta., signed with the Atlanta Braves in June after being selected 28th overall, the second Canuck chosen, and he remained with the organization through the summer.

That paved the way for Burgmann to step into a larger role, and he did so in a big way.
