Scouting Notes: CPBL Pro Day Workout - Top performers

A big kickoff week for baseball in Ontario with close to 100 prospects in attendance at the New Year Open on Monday, Wednesday was another great day as we were able to get an early look at some of the top prospects from the CPBL league with a pro day workout at the Ontario Blue Jays Facility in Mississauga.

With plenty of the top prospects in the 2018 and 2019 classes in the room, pitchers stole the show as many players have seen off-season gains on the mound and there was a buzz in the complex as arm after arm took the mound and showed pretty impressive stuff for being the middle of February. Below we highlight some of the top performances of the day with a handful of players being uncommitted at the moment.

THE ARMS

Evan Chenier RHP / Christ the King, ON / 2018

Report: Chenier, listed at 6-foot-5, 215-pounds has really evolved with his fastball velocity over the winter and came out firing as he was 88-91 in his pen with a handful of 90’s. Strong frame and a compact delivery, the arm action was clean and easy with the ability to work with down angle and show some late life through the zone with arm side run. Mixed in a slider in the low 80’s and was down in the zone with all his pitches. The feel and presence on the mound for Chenier, along with a jump in his stuff make him one of the top uncommitted players in the 2018 class. A no brainer for schools looking to add to their staff.
