Tennessee Preseason All-State: Quick Hits, Upperclass Infielders

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

GALLATIN, TN - The Tennessee Preseason All-State was held on Saturday, February 10th at Liberty Creek HS in Gallatin, TN. This event was an invite-only event that consisted of players from the 2024-2027 classes from Volunteer state. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look at some of the standouts and top performers from the event.

QUICK HITS - UPPERCLASS INFIELDERS

Camden Suggs RHP / SS / Davidson Academy , TN / 2025

At 6 foot 2 and and 185 pounds, Suggs is high-waisted with a thin and longer frame that should carry substantial muscle as he matures. Works from a bat wiggle with the hands that get into a short direct bat-path that stays connected with the hips with a longer swing through the baseball. 25 mph peak hand speed with present quickness with the bat at 71 mph. Displayed the power potential as he flashed multiple mid 90 EV’s before maxing out at 97 mph. Near the top of the entire group with an estimated tracked ball distance of 344 ft. Shows present actions defensively with developing arm strength in the low 80’s mph.

Nate Webb 1B / 3B / Pope John Paul II, TN / 2025

The former PBRFG23 participant comes into this season recovering from a labrum injury that has slowed his progression with the arm but the bat has so much upside, the arm shouldn’t be a discern of schools. At 6 foot 1 and 225 pounds, Webb is a physically gifted prospect with strength in the lower half and shoulders. Has been clocked in the low 7.1 range so the athletic ability is obvious. 180 pounds of pressure on his grip strength shows the real strength that Webb possesses in the profile. 75 mph average bat speed with multiple swings in the low 80’s mph range. 101 max EV with an average of 89 mph that hit his furthest estimated ball 390 ft. The power tool is for real and should be even better as he gets fully recovered and healthy this season. Should continue to garner plenty of college interest and a high follow for this spring.

Makai Derry SS / 3B / Grace Christian Academy , TN / 2025

The Davidson commit comes in physically developed at 6 foot and 190 pounds. Most likely suited for 3rd base at the next level but his game movements play up for his speed and shows blanched feet with the ability to move the hips literally. Glove has a softness to it that showed smooth receiving actions that worked in sync with his upper half to throw. Arm was smooth with advanced strength in the upper 80’s across the diamond. 92 max EV from a deep load on his back foot that turns hard through full contact. Should continue to climb as he gains strength in the upper half.

Brycen McDonald RHP / 3B / Lewis County, TN / 2025

The uncommitted ‘25 class prospect had a loud day all around and has firmly cemented himself on my radar. The Lewis County native comes in with a long frame at 6 foot 3 with present build at 200 pounds. There is a sense looking at the profile that he should be able to continue to add quality mass, which bodes well for his overall projection. 28 G’s of rotation acceleration was one of the highest earnings of the Preseason All-State with already quick hands (24 mph) and apparent bat speed (76 max) to understand just how much power potential is in the right handed bat. Had one of the more louder rounds with a max EV of 97 mph that stayed just shy of a 90 mph average. Clean actions defensively with established arm strength (86) that works smoothly. Be on the lookout for his continued growth and should pop some heads this summer on the circuit.

Gage Nesbitt 3B / RHP / South Gibson , TN / 2025

Nesbitt comes into the spring with a defined role in the infield. Currently profiles at 3rd base with a sure glove to his immediate area. Moves faster than his sixty suggest with athletic components and ability to quickly rotate his hips and core of the chain. Showed a 92 max EV with deep contact with an outfront barrel. Had a consistent low line drive batted ball flight off the bat with a compact level swing that should continue to get better. Quick hands (24 mph) with developing bat speed should aid Nesbitt as he starts getting attention his way.

Cory Hoard SS / 2B / Franklin, TN / 2025

The ‘25 MIF had a great overall day at Preseason All-State with loud rounds of BP that caught attention, as well as showcasing the glove with smooth actions and fluid mechanics gathering to both sides of his body. At 6 feet and 197 pounds, Hoard holds plenty of athletic traits highlighted by his 7.1 sixty and 72 mph average bat speed. Creates initial hand separation with a cock of the wrist that works with his leg drive forward to turn the hips into his swing. Consistent finish on the outside edge of his front foot after a linear drive through the hitting zone. Present raw power potential with a max EV of 96 mph, while showing steadiness just right at 90 mph EV average for his total round. Barreled baseball mostly to pull-side is where he showed off the highest numbers. Arm strength is developing but the bat makes up for any lack thereof and the feet work well enough to make routine plays, while also projecting for more ability down the line.

Robert Fitzsimmons 1B / 3B / Blackman, TN / 2025

The ‘25 class prospect goes into the spring physical at a thick 5 foot 9 and 215 pounds that holds substantial muscle mass presently. Paced his round with an overall average bat speed of 76.2 mph with tops at 83 mph. The raw power tool is there with easy levering actions that get the bat in quality launch angles with a compact stroke from the right-side. Attacks down on the ball and can look to stay through the barrel longer through it but the power showed at Preseason All-State with a max EV of 97, while averaging right under 90 mph for his day. EV has been as high as 101 this fall. The feet work better than expected underneath him and shows good feel for sitting into his hips with his glove out in front upon receiving for soft gathers. The bat is the advanced part of his game at the moment and a real draw to have him on college’s radar.

Cael Allen 3B / RHP / Collierville, TN / 2025

Another ‘25 class prospect that remains uncommitted but will find a home in no time with the current ability, while also showing projection for more with the bat and on the mound. The Collierville HS product comes in at 6 foot 1 and 210 pounds of developed muscle mass. 7.4 runner in the sixty with fluid moving actions and coordination. 96 max EV with a quick firing launch that has steady loft as he finishes through his swing. Produced one of the furthest batted ball distance with a 367 foot shot. 88 mph arm across the diamond with easy moving momentum from a shorter arm slot. Sound with the glove and can make plays in his immediate area. Worked well to his backhand with confidence with quick transfers. May show the most upside on the mound where the arm works really well downhill with some presence. Sat 86-88 mph on the 4-seam, while also showing present feel for his offspeed pitches. Doesn’t necessarily spin it great yet, but the ball is late out of hand and he does an equally quality job of hiding the ball. Can look to refine the secondary’s but shows enough feel for release point that his command shouldn’t be an issue for him and he is worth following this season.
