TEXAS- Below is a rundown of a few of the top underclassman in the state, compiled by our PBR boots-on-the-ground staff that scoured the state with the commitment to providing the most credible and reliable information in amateur baseball. Be sure to follow along on Twitter as we breakdown each prospect throughout the week.

JAYSON JONES

3B / SS / BRASWELL , TX / 2022

Jones headlined the group and definitely had a day for himself. Was able to improve his 60-yard dash time to a 6.76 and show his natural rhythm and feel for hitting. During BP was able to show barrel awareness to balls on both sides of the plate and drive them where they were pitched. Also was able to show his natural athletic ability with his hands and feet on defense. Still plenty of room to grow as a baseball player but has a very high ceiling.

JUSTIN LAMKIN

LHP / OF / CALALLEN, TX / 2022

6-foot-3, 185-pound projectable frame was able to really showcase his ability on the mound on the day. Showed natural feel and rhythm with his body throughout his delivery. Was able to show a fastball that sat 83-84 mph and commanded the pitch well on top of it. Also showed some advanced feel for his age with two off-speed pitches. Showed a CH at 77-78 mph with good arm speed and fading action to the arm side, as well as spinning a curveball with tight spin and depth at 68-69 mph. Lamkin has quite a high ceiling as he continues to grow and mature as a pitcher.

JD THOMPSON

LHP / 1B / RUSK, TX / 2022

Thompson effortlessly worked 85-88 under the lights on the first day of action for Performance Baseball out of Texas, showcasing a quick arm with impressive velocity. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound southpaw features a more polished delivery that allows him to find a consistent, high ¾ slot, producing strikes with the fastball to both sides including some arm side life. His breaking ball was a bit inconsistent in this look, working 68-71, but given the quickness of the arm, he may find a firmer slider in the future. The young left-hander, playing up in the 16U division, performed very well against a highly-touted Royals Scout Team lineup, and his ability to get swings and misses and poor contact on fastballs stands out at a young age. There is still more velocity likely on the way for Thompson, and as his breaking ball continues to get better, he has a strong chance of sticking as a starter at the next level.
