Houston Preseason ID: Position Player Scouting Reports

TEXAS - On January 14th, we wrapped up our 2024 Preseason with the Houston Preseason ID at Rice University. The day started off by the players running a 60, then throwing from their defensive positions, followed by each player a round of batting practice. Following BP, Pitchers threw bullpens, where TrackMan data was recorded. Today, we take a look at the scouting reports from all position players at the event.

TOP PLAYERS

Walker Hurst OF / 1B / Pearland, TX / 2025

Positional Profile: OF/1B Hurst is a physical athlete with really impressive numbers on the TrackMan fully utilizing his frame to drive the baseball. He will be a fun guy to watch this Spring as he uses his strength and power to drive in runs.
Body: 6-0, 181-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Wider stance, slightly open. Preloads wrist early. Short and quick through the zone, efficient swing path. 70.1 mph bat speed with 19 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 96 max exit velocity, averaged 87.3 mph. 355' max distance. Very good EV, high LD rate showing his ability to drive the baseball.
Arm: RH. OF-84 mph. Strong arm, good ball flight. Uses lower half well.
ATH: 6.86 runner in the 60. 1.69 and 3.83 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 30.10 max vertical.

 

 

Logan Lorenz 1B / OF / Strake Jesuit, TX / 2025

Positional Profile: 1B/OF Lorenz is physical with impressive strength numbers showing at the plate in all areas. As he finds his groove this Spring, he will be one of the top guys to watch in the Houston area.
Body: 6-2, 230-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Balance set up, small load step. Gets foot down early to get lower half going. Smooth, quick, and connected swing. Barrel is in and out of the zone 76.4 mph bat speed with 5 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 98 max exit velocity, averaged 86.1 mph. 305' max distance. Excellent EV, needs more consistency with contact.
Arm: LH. INF-74 mph. Solid short arm, quick release.
Defense: Fields it cleanly, gets glove down early.
ATH: 7.38 runner in the 60. 1.82 and 4.14 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 26.80 max vertical.

 

 

Matthew Scott C / 3B / Paetow, TX / 2025

Positional Profile: C/3B Scott is a big kid that uses his size at the plate to elavate the baseball with some impressive numbers. He is consistent and has a great understanding of the game behind the dish.
Body: 5-11, 210-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Narrow stance, weight heavily on back foot. Slide load step. Efficient swing path, quick through the zone. 71.2 mph bat speed with 13 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 98 max exit velocity, averaged 86.0 mph. 380' max distance. Very impressive power numbers, EV and consistency are quality.
Arm: RH. C-74 mph. Uses a lot of arm, good flight path.
Defense: 2.02-2.10 pop times. Good footwork, needs to use strong lower half more to assist help with velo.
ATH: 7.38 runner in the 60. 1.83 and 4.14 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 24.60 max vertical.

 

 

Aiden Sanchez OF / LHP / J. Frank Dobie, TX / 2025

Positional Profile: OF/LHP Sanchez is a two-way switch hitting junior with huge upside enetering his junior season. His arm strength continues to improve and is beginning to generate some power at the plate.
Body: 6-3, 200-pounds.
Hit: SH. Balance set up, slightly open. A lot of bat wiggle pre pitch. Uses a lot of upper body, consistent from both sides of the plate. 72.1 mph bat speed with 9 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 93 max exit velocity, averaged 82.7 mph. 348' max distance. Works gap to gap from both sides, solid XBH hitter.
Arm: LH. INF-82 mph. OF-85 mph. Solid arm strength and accuracy, natural throwing motion.
Defense: Fields it clean, quick and efficient out of the glove.
ATH: 6.99 runner in the 60. 1.67 and 3.90 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 32.30 max vertical.

 

 

Easton Cantrell C / OF / Santa Fe, TX / 2027

Positional Profile: C/OF Cantrell is a stocky freshman catcher with good baseball IQ showing his capability of taking charge of a defense. His numbers will likely improve over the next few years as he continues to put on size and strength.
Body: 6-0, 180-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Balanced and open set up. Big load step. Smooth through the zone, good bat speed. One hand finish. 69.8 mph bat speed with 14 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 93 max exit velocity, averaged 82.1 mph. 309' max distance. Really good EV for a '27, more power will come with size and strength.
Arm: RH. C-71 mph. INF-74 mph. OF-81 mph. Aggressive arm action, quick and effective release.
Defense: 2.01-2.09 pop times. Great footwork receiving the ball with efficient transitions.
ATH: 7.01 runner in the 60. 1.75 and 3.93 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 29.50 max vertical.

 

 


BEST OF THE REST (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)

Jacob Bennett OF / Timber Creek, TX / 2025

Positional Profile: OF Bennett is nearing his junior season and his numbers at the plate are making him a prospect worth keeping an eye on this Spring.
Body: 5-7, 170-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Wider stance, weight heavily exaggerated on back side. Hips closed off pre pitch, back elbow up. Short and quick through the zone, keeps hands above his stomach. 63.2 mph bat speed with 15 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 87 max exit velocity, averaged 78.7 mph. 305' max distance. Power numbers starting to become enticing, XBH hitter potential.
Arm: RH. OF-80 mph. Uses a lot of arm, accurate towards taregt. Needs to get on top of the ball.
ATH: 7.01 runner in the 60. 1.76 and 3.93 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 28.30 max vertical.

 

 

Jonathan Brooks C / RHP / Jordan, TX / 2025

Positional Profile: C/RHP Brooks is an all around athlete playing just about anywhere in the field including on the bump and behind the dish. He will be a solid guy to have as a utility player this Spring as he looks to find the position in which he thrives the most.
Body: 6-3, 193-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Balance and narrow set up. Loads wrist as pitch is coming. Long swing, barrel stays in the zone for a long time. 69.3 mph bat speed with 11 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 87 max exit velocity, averaged 76.4 mph. 294' max distance. Elevates the ball well. As he learns to become stronger in the lower half, he will have XBH potential
Arm: RH. C-70 mph. INF-72 mph. 3/4 release, accurate arm. Use more legs to increase velo.
Defense: 2.00-2.10 pop times. Great mechanics in the field, receives it well.
ATH: 8.16 runner in the 60. 1.99 and 4.55 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 21.60 max vertical.

 

 

Cannon Chase 1B / 1B / Galveston Ball, TX / 2026

Positional Profile: 3B/1B Chase is a big and powerful sophomore that shows upside as he continues to find consistency in his game. He has quick hands on both sides of the ball resulting in some solid numbers all around.
Body: 6-5, 204-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Wide stance, preloads lower half early to get the hips involved. Gets around on the ball well, quick hands. 69 mph bat speed with 19 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 88 max exit velocity, averaged 75.6 mph. 329' max distance. Tries to elevate resulting in some GB, but with more consistency and selectiveness he can be a quality XBH hitter.
Arm: RH. INF-74 mph. Accruate arm, velo will come.
Defense: Needs to attack the ball, clean in and out of the glove
ATH: 7.49 runner in the 60. 1.78 and 4.16 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 21.20 max vertical.

 

 

Cannon Credeur OF / OF / Brenham , TX / 2025

Positional Profile: OF/OF Credeur is coming into his junior season with a hot bat that proves to produce some pwoer and effectiveness. He will be a fun guy to watch as he looks to make a name for himself at the Varsity level.
Body: 6-1, 170-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Weight exaggerated on back side, slightly open. Hands still at shoulder level. Long swing causing barrel to stay in the zone for a while. One hand finish falling a little off balance. 69.3 mph bat speed with 13 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 80.4 mph. 351' max distance. Generates a lot of power in lower half, needs to have a little more control to increase consistency.
Arm: RH. OF-84 mph. Accurate, lets arm get outside of body, needs to stay connected.
ATH: 7.21 runner in the 60. 1.74 and 3.99 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 29.70 max vertical.

 

 

Aidan Dabila 2B / RHP / Clear Springs, TX / 2027

Positional Profile: 2B/RHP Dabila is a freshman utility player with sound mechanics that will set him up for success as he begind his high school career. The offseasons will be important for him to put on size and strength to conintue developing into a physical player.
Body: 5-4, 146-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Balance set up, slightly open. Back elbow up. Long and smooth swing, reaches good extension at contact. 60.5 mph bat speed with 3 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 80 max exit velocity, averaged 73.7 mph. 283' max distance. Solid barrel contact, power will come with size and strength.
Arm: RH. INF-68 mph. OF-77 mph. Uses all arm, needs to use lower half.
Defense: Attacks the ball well, receives it clean.
ATH: 7.42 runner in the 60. 1.90 and 4.18 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 24.50 max vertical.

 

 

Noah Edmiston OF / 2B / Houston Christian, TX / 2025

Positional Profile: OF/2B Edmiston is a solid athlete with quick hands at the plate and a natural feel for the game in the field. As he continues to develop physically, he will be a fun guy to watch as he wraps up his high school career.
Body: 5-9, 137-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Balance set up, front foot slightly pointed in. Starts with bat on back shoulder. Small stride with front foot, level swing. Good on plane efficiency. 62.1 mph bat speed with 7 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 83 max exit velocity, averaged 73.2 mph. 281' max distance. Uses a lot of upper body, power numbers will increase as he incorporates more of the lower half.
Arm: RH. INF-68 mph. OF-74 mph. Solid arm action while maintaining accuracy.
Defense: Field it cleanly, works through the ball well towards his target.
ATH: 7.40 runner in the 60. 1.80 and 4.11 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 24.00 max vertical.

 

 

Cameron Ertan RHP / OF / Second Baptist, TX / 2025

Positional Profile: RHP/OF Ertan is a consistent two-way player showing good upside on both sides of the ball. He has a solid frame to be successful as he continues to work hard and fill out as a potential collegiate athlete.
Body: 6-2, 146-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Wide and open stance, exxagerates load with weight far back. Barrel is in and out of the zone, typically hits under the ball. 67.6 mph bat speed with 9 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 87 max exit velocity, averaged 79.5 mph. 315' max distance. Shows some power potential. Numbers will likely increase as he puts in work in the weight room.
Arm: RH. INF-83 mph. OF-88 mph. Uses full body to throw thorugh target. Solid arm action.
Defense: Good IQ in the field, good glove all around.
ATH: 7.39 runner in the 60. 28.10 max vertical.

 

 

Diego Gonzalez LHP / 1B / Ross S. Sterling , TX / 2025

Positional Profile: LHP/1B Gonzalez is beginning to show some strength at the plate proving the work he put in this past offseason is paying off. As he gains more consistency he will have some intriguing XBH potential as well as a solid lefty arm to look for on the mound.
Body: 6-0, 217-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Weight slightly back, bat on shoulder. Lofted swing, high FB rate. One handed finish. 67.4 mph bat speed with 11 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 89 max exit velocity, averaged 77.0 mph. 294' max distance. Mainly power hitter, needs to gain consistency.
Arm: LH. INF-75 mph. Solid arm motion, quick and efficient out of the glove.
Defense: Fields it clean and works towards target well.
ATH: 7.95 runner in the 60. 19.30 max vertical.

 

 

Colson Istre 1B / LHP / Lake Creek, TX / 2027

Positional Profile: 1B/LHP Istre is a freshman two-way lefty with some impressive numbers from the plate and some solid potential as he continues to become comfortable on the mound.
Body: 6-2, 225-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Wide stance, slightly open. Barrel is vertical pre pitch. Connected swing, takes knob straight to the ball.
Power: 93 max exit velocity, averaged 83.6 mph. 324' max distance. Really impressive EV as a '27. Numbers will continue to climb over the next few years.
Arm: LH. INF-74 mph. Efficient arm path, gets it out quick.
ATH: 7.90 runner in the 60. 1.87 and 4.36 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 22.20 max vertical.

 

 

Koby Jones OF / 2B / East Chambers, TX / 2026

Positional Profile: OF/2B Jones is approaching his sophomore season with a great overall understanding of the game. He has good potential upsides as he fills out his frame over the next couple years.
Body: 6-0, 173-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Wide stance, weight back. Hands back and elevated pre pitch. Two step load with front foot. Smooth and level swing, drops back shoulder slightly. 60.6 mph bat speed with 11 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 81 max exit velocity, averaged 72.7 mph. 279' max distance. Elevates the ball well, power will come with hardwork in the offseason.
Arm: RH. OF-71 mph. Uses all arm, shorter arm path but accurate.
ATH: 7.32 runner in the 60. 1.75 and 4.04 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 26.30 max vertical.

 

 

Cameron Kern OF / OF / Clear Falls, TX / 2026

Positional Profile: RHP/OF Kern is an incoming sophomore with a good build showing the ability to drive the baseball consistently as well as having a solid arm from the field.
Body: 6-0, 186-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Balance set up, slightly closed. Pre loads wrist. Level swing, high LD rate catching the top half of the baseball. 72.7 mph bat speed with 12 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 97 max exit velocity, averaged 84.5 mph. 335' max distance. Barrels the ball well, impressive EV.
Arm: RH. OF-86 mph. Strong and accurate arm, works downhill.
ATH: 7.12 runner in the 60. 1.76 and 4.01 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 28.10 max vertical.

 

 

Christian Luna SS / OF / Paetow, TX / 2026

Positional Profile: SS/3B Luna is an athlete that is aggressive both at the plate and in the field while maintaining poise and control.
Body: 5-10, 165-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Front knee pointed in exaggerating weight on back foot. Hands up in good position to attack the ball. A lot of pre ppitch upper body movement. Quick hands, fires hips through. Longer swing with one hand finish. 68.6 mph bat speed with 12 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 90 max exit velocity, averaged 80.4 mph. 330' max distance. Has some solid power numbers, will likely increase with a more compact swing.
Arm: RH. INF-77 mph. Strong and accurate arm, gets on top of the ball.
Defense: Soft hands, works through the ball towards target.
ATH: 7.20 runner in the 60. 26.70 max vertical.

 

 

Chase Morgan SS / 2B / CLEAR LAKE H S, TX / 2026

Positional Profile: SS/2B Morgan is an explosive player showing the work he put in this past Fall with his short and powerful swing producing some very impressive numbers for a '26.
Body: 5-10, 155-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Balance set up, slightly wider. Preloads hands back early. Short and quick through the zone. Has some recoil after follow through. 67.9 mph bat speed with 16 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 93 max exit velocity, averaged 76.3 mph. 336' max distance. Drives the ball well, good EV. Consistency will come as he makes some minor adjustments.
Arm: RH. INF-80 mph. Good arm strength and accurate. Solid short arm with good velo.
Defense: Has impressive range, in and out of glove efficiently.
ATH: 7.42 runner in the 60. 1.97 and 4.22 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 29.10 max vertical.

 

 

Michael Morris OF / 3B / St Pius X, TX / 2026

Positional Profile: OF/3B Morris is your ideal clean-up hitter with good power numbers on TrackMan. Only being a sophomore, he will be a lot of fun to watch make a name for himself over the next few years.
Body: 6-4, 194-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Old school setup, very narrow with big load step. Starts with bat on shoulder. Good swing plan with quick hands. Engages lower half well. 74.4 mph bat speed with 13 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 100 max exit velocity, averaged 87.2 mph. 350' max distance. D1 power numbers, as he gains consistency he will be a scary guy to pitch to.
Arm: RH. INF-77 mph. OF-84 mph. Uses a lot of arm, needs to utlize strong lower half. OTT release.
Defense: Good mechanics, flat footed attacking the ball making it hard to work towards target.
ATH: 7.20 runner in the 60. 1.73 and 3.99 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 25.10 max vertical.

 

 

Austin Reyna SS / OF / Santa Fe, TX / 2027

Positional Profile: SS/OF Reyna is entering his first season of high school ball and is already showing the consistency on both sides of the ball that coaches love to see. He will see a jump in his numbers as he matures and gains size/strength.
Body: 5-4, 118-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Balance set up, slightly open. Hands up. Longer swing but really impressive swing plane efficiency. 56.9 mph bat speed with 9 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 82 max exit velocity, averaged 70.8 mph. 242' max distance. Consistent hitter, power will come as he develops physically.
Arm: RH. INF-67 mph. OF-75 mph. Natrual arm, effortless and accurate.
Defense: Has good feel and fundamentals. Works towards target well.
ATH: 7.40 runner in the 60. 1.78 and 4.10 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 27.90 max vertical.

 

 

Davidenko Rodriguez SS / 2B / James E. Taylor, TX / 2026

Positional Profile: SS/2B Rodriguez is an incoming sophomore with a sweet swing from the left side playing all over in the field making him a strong candidate as he continues to develop into a well rounded ball player.
Body: 5-7, 160-pounds.
Hit: SH. Narrow set up, high knee load step. Back elbow up. Takes hands straight to the ball, efficient swing path. 65.7 mph bat speed with 22 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 88 max exit velocity, averaged 78.8 mph. 331' max distance. Has XBH potential, solid power numbers.
Arm: RH. INF-79 mph. Accurate and consistent, makes it look effortless
Defense: Very good footwork and mechanics, attacks the ball well.
ATH: 7.50 runner in the 60. 1.92 and 4.23 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 27.90 max vertical.

 

 

Grant Shepherd LHP / OF / Pearland , TX / 2026

Positional Profile: LHP/OF Shepherd is a high IQ two-way sophomore proving his worth with intriguing velo from the left side, solid power numbers at the plate all while seeing the game really well.
Body: 6-0, 168-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Static stance, weight back. Big load step as pitch is coming. Short and quick through the zone, high LD rate. 68.9 mph bat speed with 15 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 92 max exit velocity, averaged 80.9 mph. 325' max distance. Ability to drive the baseball, impressive EV for a '26.
Arm: LH. OF-88 mph. Hose of an arm, accurate and efficient. Gets it out quick.
ATH: 7.25 runner in the 60. 1.77 and 4.03 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 28.50 max vertical.

 

 

Jack Stanger 1B / 3B / St. John's, TX / 2026

Positional Profile: 1B/3B Stanger has all of the visual characteristics you could ask for showing the work he put in this past offseason. He will be a fun guy to a watch both swinging the stick and on the bump as he conintues to find consistency with a three pitch command.
Body: 6-0, 204-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Balance set up, not much pre pitch movement. Simple load, small step early to get lower half going. Turns on the ball early, consistently drives top half of the baseball. 71.1 mph bat speed with 15 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 91 max exit velocity, averaged 78.6 mph. 334' max distance. Consistently finds a barrel, major XBH potential.
Arm: RH. INF-80 mph. Accurate arm, efficient short arm motion.
Defense: Attacks the ball well working towards target
ATH: 7.53 runner in the 60. 1.84 and 4.16 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 23.30 max vertical.
