RHP Tyler Holman (Liberty) was one of the biggest risers in the state's 2024 class following this summer, jumping over 20 spots to currently find himself inside the top-25 on our rankings. Coming off an injury, Holman drew plenty of buzz at the PBR Illinois State Games, starring as one of the top prospects in attendance amongst a loaded crop of prospects.

From 8/8/23: "...made the trip up to Rantoul from the St. Louis area and the 6-foot-4, 180-pound long-levered right-hander brought one of the higher ceilings in attendance to the mound. Holman, who’s still fully developing his feel down the mound, pumped his fastball at an easy, lively 87-90 mph, peaking at 91 mph on his firmest bullet with plenty more to come. He spun a tighter low-70s breaking ball at 2500+ RPM at peak and flashed a 78-79 mph changeup, too. Shortly after the event, Holman committed to the University of St. Louis."

We recently had the opportunity to talk with Holman on his recruiting process, why he chose the Billikens, his favorite baseball memory, toughest opponent, and several other topics. You'll find our full discourse below.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Holman: I was looking to go somewhere with a family-like culture. As well as somewhere that I could possibly get play time early on it I work hard for it. 

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Holman: Yes, it played a pretty significant role because I wanted to stay pretty close to home. 

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

Holman: It started to really heat up once I threw my first bullpen after surgery. SLU came and watched me this passed summer and liked what they saw and had me on a visit shortly after. 

PBR: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Holman: I felt a really good bond between me and the coaches. My parents felt that connection as well. I also liked the high education that they have to offer. 

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Holman: University of Evansville, Lindenwood University, University of Missouri, and Indiana State University.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

Holman: OF Leo Humbert (Francis Howell, 2025; Mizzou commit) because he puts the ball in play often and he is very fast which makes him hard to get out.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

Holman: Sophomore year because that is when I started to get college interest.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Holman: Find something you enjoy doing because putting the work in will be enjoyable.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Holman: Receiving my first college offer because it made me realize I have an opportunity to play college baseball.

PBR: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

Holman: I feel like we are going to have a strong pitching staff and as long as our hitting is on point then we should be able to win a lot of games and make it as far as possible.
