WACO, T.X. - The All-State Games continues to be one of the states premiere events in displaying some of the top talent in Texas. Last years All-State Games at McLennan Community College was no different, today our staff has decided to revisit that talent with a look four committed prospects and a few prospects that are likely on coaches’ radars.

COMMITTED

KONNOR BAIRD

RHP / 1B / SALADO, TX / 2020

UTRGV Recruit. The lanky, high-waisted Baird (6-toot-3, 190-pounds) had a nice showing on the mound at the All-State Games, his fastball worked 88-91, topping 91 mph. He works with an aggressive tempo, a compact and explosive drive, with short arm action in back and extended ¾ slot. Spun an over-the-top curveball at 76-80 and spotted up his changeup at 77 mph.

THOMAS MARQUARDT

RHP / HARLAN , TX / 2022

Baylor Recruit. Broad-shouldered with some strength in the lower-half, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound Marquardt appears to have even more room to continue filling out, and given his clean arm stroke and repeatable delivery, could see an even bigger velocity jump as soon as this spring. Marquardt effortlessly worked 81-83 as he flooded the zone with strikes with the fastball at the end of the fall at a PBR Texas event, and there is good reason to believe that the spring will hold even more velocity. His ability to land a tightly-spun, 11/5 breaking ball at a firm, 75 mph is even more intriguing given its smaller differential to the fastball. As he continues filling out and gains more velocity, the ability to spin the breaking ball with fastball intent could lead to a swing-and-miss offering. Overall, Marquardt’s relaxed ability to repeat a simple delivery with a fast arm, along with quality feel for a breaking ball, should allow him to create outs on his own, especially as his frame continues to mature.
