Terriers Fall Trip: Quick Hits vs. Fairmont State/Garrett College

Michael Stavraky
PBR Ontario Intern

PBR Ontario and Terriers Baseball have partnered up for their annual Fall Trip as they travel through New York, West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio over ten days for games and workouts at college/university campuses. We have staff travelling with the group on the trip providing coverage of the games and workouts.

Following their first day of the trip where they took on Niagara County Community College, they travelled into West Virginia for a practice and tour of Fairmont State University (NCAA DII), following by a game the next day. The team would swap states once again for their third game of the trip as they moved to McHenry, Maryland to take on Garrett College (NJCAA DII).

VS. FAIRMONT STATE UNIVERSITY

2025 RHP/MIF Armin Najmaie worked two clean innings in the game against Fairmount State University on Sunday. Entering as a reliever, he held the Division II program scoreless over two innings, yielding just two hits while striking out four. Najmaie's fastball, clocking in at 74-76mph, displayed plenty of arm-side run, consistently finding the strike zone with precision and paired it with a curveball that sat 61-64mph and created lots of swings and misses. Strong relief outing from Najmaie.

2025 RHP Ben Chmielowiec generated a plethora of weak contact during his inning of work. Fastball showed arm-side run with occasional sink at times and was consistently located to the outside part of the plate. Partnered it with a breaking ball that offered downward movement and fooled hitters throughout the inning. A young right-hander that can move the ball in different directions and looks uncomfortable to hit, an efficient scoreless inning from Chmielowiec, and is another good follow this week.

2027 RHP/OF Josh Mendl was a tough at-bat for opponents during his inning of work, throwing his fastball up and in, tight on righties and working his breaking stuff to the outside part of the plate. Another projectable young pitcher from the Terriers organization that worked a scoreless inning against a Division II Program.

VS. GARRETT COLLEGE

2024 RHP Ethan Kirkpatrick worked 2 strong innings to start the game vs Garrett College, only surrendering one run during his outing. Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 160-pounds with room to fill, had feel for the zone with his fastball that sat 74-77mph (T78), complimented with a curveball that was 60-64mph and generated plenty of weak contact. Kirkpatrick was able to navigate his way out of a bases-loaded jam unscathed in the second inning.

2025 RHP/OF Tanner Jacko took over in the 5th inning and worked an outstanding inning against Garrett College on Monday. The versatile two-way player stands at 5-foot-11, 172-pounds, and comes at you with his two-pitch mix of FB/CH. In his inning of work, he created tons of swing-and-miss and had a knack for hitting the outside part of the plate, he worked a scoreless 5th and picked up two strikeouts along the way.

2025 RHP/INF John Genco was the Terriers final arm in Monday’s game against Garret College, and overall worked an impressive inning against the junior college program. His FB/CB combo complemented each other off the tunnel and looked to be a difficult at-bat throughout the inning. Fastball sat in the mid-70s, coupled with his breaking stuff in the low-mid 60s. A toolsy player who can pitch and hit from both sides of the plate, impressive inning from Genco on Monday.
