The VISAA Division III preview features four teams, three of whom found their way into the VISAA State Semifinals and beyond in 2023. Can anyone dethrone the king of VISAA DIII, the Walsingham Trojans? See notes and spotlights below.

VISAA Division III Previews:

Walsingham Academy Trojans

2023 Record: 22-10 *VISAA Division III State Champions*

While it seems like the Trojans graduate a ton of talent and production every year, Coach Heisel brings back another strong Walsingham team in 2024. The five-time defending VISAA DIII State Champions return seven starters this year. The Trojans will also add two transfers from the Williamsburg area, with sophomore Matthew Swanson being the headliner. Luke Harlow was the Division III Player of the Year in 2023 and the Ohio State commit should be the frontrunner for that honor once again in 2024. Along with Swanson, Davis Neighbor will be the anchor on the mound. Neighbor has gotten the ball in the last two state championship games and the Hampden-Sydney commit is more than ready to take the title of staff ace. The offensive lineup is the highlight for this Trojans team. Harlow, Sean Sousa (George Washington), Brody Schultz, Will Wyles (Hampden-Sydney), and Ayden Evans (Hampden-Sydney) should be the big pieces in this lineup. This group of upperclassmen can be explosive and should be able to handle the weight on their shoulders and it makes them the clear favorite in VISAA Division III.

Brunswick Academy Vikings

2023 Record: 16-5 *VISAA Division III State Runner-Up*

The Vikings made it to the VISAA Division III championship game in 2023, but will have to replace the production of Tommy Landsnes and Trey Mitchell (Eastern Mennonite) in order to get back and capitalize on that spot in the title game. They return 1st Team All-State player in Nick Parrish, as well as sophomore Nathan Wells for the Vikings in ‘24 and have some other underclass talent coming up. However, the Vikings may be a year away from challenging Walsingham for that crown.

Kenston Forest Kavaliers

2023 Record: 14-6 *Lost in Division III State Semifinal*

The Kavaliers return Jett Algeier, who was one of their best arms in 2023. The now Sewanee commit should be towards the top of the rotation and has the experience to allow them to compete for a trip back to Shepherd Stadium in late May. The freshmen Graham Sledd could provide them with some valuable depth on the mound as well. Jobe Sullivan will anchor the defense behind the plate and provide some offensive firepower in the lineup as well. The junior backstop is one of the top uncommitted players in Division III.

The Carlisle Chiefs are coming off of a 8-9 season. They had some big wins, as well as some lopsided losses. The Chiefs' season ended at the hands of Kenston Forest in the state quarterfinals. Carlisle lost Ian Martin (King) and Styles Geramita to graduation, but will return Sam Carter and Casey Thomas. The Chiefs will need to find some depth on the mound behind Thomas in order to find their way back to Shepher Stadium in late May.
