Ohio Insider: Sinclair Fall Showcase Scouting Report

Sinclair and head coach Steve Dintaman have had plenty of success for quite awhile, and over the past three seasons, that success has culminated in back to back to back Regional Finalist appearances with 2016 having reached the JUCO World Series. Overall, Sinclair has won 17 OCCAC Championships and have had 29 Regional Appearances, 3 Regional Finalist ('09, '15, '17) and one World Series Appearance (2016 - 3rd place finish).

Along with the success as a team, the Tartan Pride also has had plenty of success at developing their prospects and at getting their athletes to the D1 level (43 since 2011) and in some cases drafted into a Major League Baseball organization (7 drafted and 4 currently active in MILB).

Below we would like to highlight each of the prospects that Sinclair has to offer in 2017/2018.

Top Overall Prospects

Jack Goonan RHP / Ayersville, OH / 2016

On a loaded Sinclair staff, Goonan's stuff stood out. An intimidating presence on the mound with a fastball that never dipped below 90 mph in his outing. Spins a plus breaking ball. We don’t throw out the term “plus” very often but Goonan's breaking ball fits the description. A true 12/6 breaker that has serious depth before dropping off the table at 79-82 mph. His over the top slot makes it tough for hitters to recognize spin, and with his velocity it left hitters guessing throughout the day. Also looks to be playing around with a split change at 84-85 mph. Presently looks to fit best in a closer role but if his change catches up to his other two offerings and he can efficiently control pitch counts, a starter role wouldn’t be out of the question.
