Ohio Insider: Top 2018 Uncommitted Catching Prospects

With the Spring season and Summer showcase season coming to an end and the 2017-2018 high school sports season as well as fall ball getting underway, we would like to take a look at some of the top uncommitted prospects at each position. Over the next few weeks we will look at the top uncommitted 2018 prospects as well as the top underclass prospects. As you can see by the 2018 rankings, there are a good amount of commits all over the nation and plenty of talent left out there for colleges to find.

Today we are looking at the top uncommitted 2018 Catching Prospects in Ohio. We highlight 11 backstops along with a quick peek at a handful of catchers below that. We will look to create a few top uncommitted lists each week, as there are numerous talented prospects still available. Enjoy!

Manny Vorhees C / RHP / Wapakoneta, OH / 2018 Rankings  State Rank:70 POS:11 At the plate he has a middle of the lineup look to him. A strong kid with feel for the barrel. Did a nice job of staying inside the baseball. Bat speed is an above average tool as well. Produced consistent backspin to the middle of the field. Showed the ability to find the gap with ease. Behind the plate he starts in a low to mid crouch. Catch and throw skills are quick. Ball gets out of his hand well. Solid catch and throw guy in general. On the mound the right-hander has a slower paced tempo that speeds up at balanced point. Drop and drive type guy that generates solid momentum with his lower half. Offers a three-pitch mix, working through a high-¾ slot. Delivery requires some effort. Fastball is heavy with late lift to it. With the velo and run the pitch is tough to handle. Changeup was impressive. Maintains arm speed on the pitch that showed late fade to it. Looked confident in the offering. Spins a tight, big-breaking curveball. The pitch has some swing and miss to it, with an 11/5 shape. Cruised through his outing, showing pitchability and well above average stuff. Scholarship type arm.
