VA/DC 2024 Rankings Update: Risers

With rankings updates comes changes. While the 2024 class is not expanding in terms of number of players ranked, we have seem some movement throughout the Top 250. Today, as we kick off our most recent rankings cycle, we look at a few familiar faces that have made a sizable jump in the rankings.
Risers:

James Beasley RHP / 1B / Herndon , VA / 2024Beasley has shown some flashes of brilliance the past year, but has also struggle in some spots. This fall he seemed to really turn it on. The 6-foot-7 right hander has always left you wondering what could be, with the XL frame. Moves well for the size and seems to have some feel for the mechanics. This fall he came out pumping 90-93 in his first inning of work, before settling in the 89-91 range. The secondary needs polish, but the velo alone gives him some helium in a variety of areas as he prepares for the spring.

Elijah Coston OF / LHP / Benedictine, VA / 2024Coston came away from the Mid-Atlantic Procase being one of the most talked about names from the star studded event. The tools have been there, but it is consistency that everyone was searching for. While there is some two-way ability, the bat carries the weight here. Short quick swing, ball jumps off the barrel, and has plenty of athleticism to leave some intrigue for positional value in the outfield. Coston sat just outside the Top 25 in the last update and will look for a potential move up on Wednesday.

Caleb Furmage C / OF / Salem, VA / 2024Furmage was a guy we first had a chance to really lock in on this spring at Salem and the continued looks through the summer have only seen him creep further up. Left handed hitting catcher with a barrel that has some length in the zone and has shown the ability to hit to all fields. It is not dynamic, impactful contact, but has shown solid bat to ball skills. As the barrel rate picks up and he adds weight to the fairly thin frame, he will have a chance to impact the baseball in a bigger way.

Jackson Ingram SS / 2B / Miller School of Albemarle, VA / 2024We have not gotten a ton of looks on Ingram since March, but in the most recent ones, he has really taken the athleticism up a notch. Once a '25 reclass and then back into the '24 class, the WVU commit has the footspeed to stay in the middle, arm strength to give him a chance at short, and the offense has picked up a touch. It has always been a contact, line drive type of bat, that has flashed some doubles, but he seems to be using added strength in a bigger way at the plate. Had a couple of loud barrels at Lakepoint this summer and showed even better at the Miller School Scout Day.

Hayden Kalisz RHP / RHP / St. John's College, MD / 2024One thing you can always sort of count on, is a St. John's arm to make a significant jump as they mature. This year, it appears to be Hayden Kalisz. The now Alabama commit has consistently been a mid 80's arm, but took a pretty sizable jump this fall, showing upper 80's in front of our staff at the DC Fall Championship. Slow buildup, normal effort, and a quick high three-quarter arm. This is an arm, that two years ago, was an upper 70's arm, leaving it to a 10 mph gain in roughly twenty four months, all while maintaining pitchability. Kalisz will make a climb this week and is poised to be an integral part of a star studded staff this spring for St. John's.
