VA/DC 2026 Rankings Update: Positional New Faces

With a rankings update comes new faces entering the rankings. The 2026 class sat at 75 players in the last update in September, and we will now expand by 25 to make it the Top 100 ranked players.
Today we will feature five positional players that from that group of new faces that will make their way into the ranks this week.
New Faces:

Aries Oliver OF / RHP / Northside, VA / 2026Oliver has some of the best "freak" athlete traits of any 2026. 6-foot-3, 185-pounds of lean strength. Long limbs, advanced runner, and rotates with some force. Hands are fairly quiet in pre-pitch action and has above average hand and bat speed through the zone. Long rangy defender with some positional versatility and the foot speed to stay in center. The stock will continue to rise as the consistency of the offense picks up.

Grant Shiflett 1B / 3B / Albemarle, VA / 2026The Charlottesville area product produced some of the best BP at Mid-Atlantic State Games. Loud barrels with some easy power to the pull side. Corner/corner projection and advanced arm strength across the infield. The swing has some length at times, as well as some uphill path that is partially created from the weight staying primarily over the backside. This is more of a run production, power potential type of bat from the left side.

John Michael Szefc SS / 2B / Miller , VA / 2026Szefc moves into the '26 rankings after a reclass from '25. The Miller School middle infielder has really matured over the past year. He has made gains across the board, courtesy of some added weight, strength, and maturity. This is a hit tool, doubles type of bat that sprays it around the field and has shown some really nice feel for the barrel. The added time has benefited Szefc and allowed his physical tools to develop. This is a very solid left handed bat that has a chance be a big piece of the Mavericks' team this spring.

Carter Thomasson C / RHP / Halifax, VA / 2026Solid 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame. Big intent in the swing for the Halifax sophomore. Accelerates through the zone and looking to do damage. Run production bat with slightly above average bat speed. Behind the plate it is a quick and clean exchange with well above average arm strength on throws and carry through the bag.

Weston Yount UTILITY / LHP / Mountain View, VA / 2026Arguably the breakout performance of the summer goes to the Mountain View sophomore. Yount put together quality at-bat after quality at-bat in the Fall Championships in Richmond. This is one of the few times that we have had a chance to see Yount, especially in game, and he did not disappoint. Compact stroke, length in the zone, and tremendous feel for the barrel. Still to be determined where Yount will settle on the defensive side in the future (listed as utility), but the bat will find it's way into a lineup.
