USA Prime Scout Day: Quick Hits

On Sunday, November 12th, Prep Baseball Report Arizona hosted the USA Prime Scout Day at Desert Ridge High School in Mesa, AZ. The USA Prime Scout Day is a private event held for prospects in the 2024-2028 classes that play for the USA Prime program. Giving the players the chance to showcase their skills in front of the PBR Arizona Staff using state-of-the-art technology on field.

Gavin McBride 3B / 1B / Kalama , WA / 2025

Gavin McBride, a standout athlete standing at an impressive 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 190 pounds, turned heads at the USA Prime Scout Day. During batting practice, McBride demonstrated an exceptional ability to generate power, consistently putting together rounds that produced deep fly balls with a natural loft. His quick and efficient swing path played a significant role in unleashing his power at the plate. McBride's top exit velocity of 99.5 mph not only marked the pinnacle of the event but also showcased the raw strength and precision he brings to his hitting game. McBride's combination of size, power, and technical prowess positions him as a promising talent to watch on the baseball diamond.

 

 

Colten Figueroa C / RHP / Horizon , AZ / 2025

Colton Figueroa, the skilled catcher from Horizon High School, emerged as the top performer behind the plate during a recent showcase. On Sunday morning, Figueroa displayed his defensive prowess, showcasing an impressive 1.97-2.05 pop time behind the plate, coupled with a strong 74 mph arm. His quick and accurate throws to bases demonstrated not only his agility but also his ability to control the opponent's running game effectively. Moreover, Figueroa's offensive capabilities were equally noteworthy. At the plate, he consistently made hard contact to both sides of the field, illustrating a well-rounded approach. Notably, the majority of his power was directed to the pull side, where he showcased a 95.4 mph max exit velocity.

 

 

Dominic Ziccarelli SS / RHP / Cactus Shadows, AZ / 2025

Dominic Ziccarelli, a versatile middle infielder from Cactus Shadows High School, showcases his skills as both an infielder and a right-handed pitcher. In the middle infield, Ziccarelli displays agility and precision. Offensively, his right-handed swing boasts raw power, consistently delivering hard contact at the plate. What sets Ziccarelli apart is his true ability to work the opposite field, demonstrating a well-rounded offensive approach. On the mound, he features a heavy fastball that sits in the 78-80 mph range, keeping hitters on their toes. Ziccarelli's diverse skill set and proficiency both in the infield and on the mound make him a valuable two-way player. With an impressive 96.6 mph exit velocity at the plate, he not only contributes defensively but also brings offensive firepower to a strong Falcons offense. 

 

 

Arnav Akula RHP / Desert Mountain, AZ / 2025

Arnav Akula, a right-handed pitcher from Desert Mountain High School, stands at an imposing 6 feet 2 inches and weighs 165 pounds. Akula operates from a low mid 3/4 arm slot, bringing a unique and effective delivery to the mound. His fastball, consistently sitting in the 76-78 mph range, showcases not only accuracy but also quality depth, making it a challenging pitch for hitters to track. Akula's off-speed arsenal is highlighted by a sharp 69-72 mph slider that features late-breaking depth, providing a deceptive complement to his fastball. With his combination of size, skill, and a well-rounded pitching repertoire, Akula has the potential to be a standout force on the mound for Desert Mountain High School.
