The Black Swamp Baseball Classic: Player Analysis From Ohio Programs



The Great Black Swamp Baseball Classic got its start in 1997 in Bowling Green,Ohio, and has evolved into a premier amateur summer baseball tournament in the Midwest. A big thanks to Tim Dunn, Director of the tournament, for another well run tournament in NW Ohio.

The tournament has teams from all over the United States and Canada and as far away as Puerto Rico. In this we are taking a closer look at a few of the Ohio teams involved in the tournament.

16u Ohio Force

Logan Heintzman, RHP, Lakota West, 9/25/97-Birthdate

6-foot-1, 160-pound thin, projectable body frame. Started on the mound he uses a slow paced windup with long arm action and average armspeed coming from a ¾ slot.

16u Columbus Cobras

Jeremiah Clarke, OF/RHP, Westerville Central, 2016

6-foot-2, 190-pound stronger, athletic frame. Played center-field and hit leadoff on this occasion. From the outfield he shows descent arm strength. Right-handed hitter starts with a balanced set up, using simple step and swing type mechanics.

 

16u Ohio Elite-Ratcliff

Christian McFarland, OF/2B, Olentangy, 2016

5-foot-9, 160-pound athletic frame. He hit leadoff and played right-field. Right-handed hitter starts with a balanced set up, keeping mechanics simple, good contact type hitter.

 

16u Brownlee Lookouts

Devonte Washington, C/IF, Twinsburg, 2016

6-foot-1, 168-pound athletic body frame. Played third base and hit sixth in the lineup on this occasion. Comes from an athletic family, older brother DJ played at the University of Akron and another older brother Jalen plays baseball at Ohio State.

 

16u Locos Express

Deylen Miley, SS/RHP, Bryan, 2016

6-foot-2, 160-pound tall, thin projectable body frame. Played short-stop and hit third in the lineup. Right-handed hitter begins from a balanced stance using a smaller leg kick for added power. He went 4-3, and singled to right-field squaring the baseball up.

18u Whitehouse Legion

Andrew Fisher, LHP/OF, Bowling Green, 2014

6-foot-1, 165-pound thin bod frame with room to fill. Eastern Illinois commit. Hit leadoff and was the starting pitcher. From the left side he starts with an open set up getting back to being square. He went F-7, got an infield hit running a 4.27 down the line, and squared one up going F-8. Left-handed pitcher uses a full hands over the head wind up with quicker arm speed and shorter arm action coming from a ¾ slot. Does a tremendous job hitting his spots keeping the baseball down. Has a good feel for all four pitches. His fastball showed good natural with some sinking movement at 79-82 mph. His curveball showed gradual downward break at 64-67 mph. His slider showed tighter break at 74-75 mph. H also threw a changeup using fastball armspeed with some sink at 75 mph.
