Logan Nelson
PBR Georgia Staff

As we begin to close the book on 2023 and shift our focus to a brand-new year, we continue our tradition of highlighting the Top-25 Most Viewed Profiles for the calendar year. Using Google Analytics, our staff was able to compile a list of the Top-25 prospects whose PBR profile was viewed the most in 2023. Many of the players mentioned on this list produced at a high level at various PBR events over the course of the last 12 months.

Today we announce #9 and will go all the way to No. 1, which will be announced on December 31st. Coming in at #9 is 2023 Future Games standout, and Clemson commit, Eston Simpson.

Scouting Report

7/31/23

Handled possibly the best talent he’s faced perfectly, literally. Simpson went perfect through both innings he pitched with 3 K’s. An arm that is easy to love. Long, athletic frame that will handle the next level well at 6-foot-6, 180 pounds. Displayed a show of dominance and mound presence. Builds pace gradually and creates angle with his long build and ¾ arm slot. Well-sequenced with coil. Smooth, loose full-circle arm action. Fastball had some run, going 86-88 that he located wherever he wanted with a curveball he threw in occasionally running 71-73. Pitchability was displayed very well, and his ceiling his endless. A projectability as high as his will be a must-follow and proved everything we saw in him this summer in this outing, gaining the attention of many.

Eston Simpson, Jefferson (GA), 2025
Positional Profile: RHP/1B
Body: 6-6, 180-pounds. XL frame, high waisted with coat hanger shoulders, long levers.
Delivery: Smooth, crossfire delivery that builds pace gradually and creates angle. Lead arm is developing as a lever and shoulder rotation matches slot perfectly. Good rhythm, timed up coil, very well sequenced overall.
Arm Action: RH. Extremely clean, fluid full circle arm action that drops out of the glove effortlessly. Repeats depth and L3/4 slot at high level. Hides well.
FB: T89, 85-88 mph. Gradual run, control to both edges. T2251, 2060 average rpm.
CB: 68-71 mph. SLV has 2 plane depth and gradual sweep that plays up due to angle. T2265, 2125 average rpm.
SL: 69-72 mph. T2332, 2158 average rpm.
CH: 81-81 mph. Impressive fade approaching edge to edge at times. T1529, 1505 average rpm.

6/01/23

Uncommitted. 6-foot-6, 180 pounds. I don't think anyone would argue that this is one of the most projectable arms in the 2025 class, but what separates him from many other projection arms is the feel to pitch. He’s got 3 pitches in the arsenal he can throw in any count, with the ability to dominate horizontally. Eston’s crossfire angle adds tons of deception to the delivery combined with angle, making it very difficult to track him for both RHH & LHH. He routinely paints the inner and outer edges with his heater, showing interesting life at times but even more impressive is the ability to keep the pitch out of harm's way as the velocity develops. Although he was working in the 84-87 range on this day, he has already hit new PR’s on the pitch since. I feel his CB/SLV is very unique with gradual sweep and 2 plane depth that plays even better than its metrics due to the lower slot and angle his crossfire creates. Not to mention his one of the tallest players in the class, making all pitches even tougher to track out of the hand. Speaking of tracking it out of the hand, you can see how tightly he spins the FB/SLV and this is an arm who is nowhere near the eventual ceiling on his stuff. His CH has tons of potential and is heavy with very impressive fade at times. Simpson is able to control his 3rd pitch better than most, and we feel this is an easy lock as a starter with a 3 pitch arsenal for sure. He can add a CUT/hard sweeper in the future that will make his other 3 pitches that much more impactful, but for now we’d like to continue seeing him fill out and building his 4 seam. We are some of Eston’s biggest believers, and truly feel he will pass many others throughout the country as he fills into the frame.

2/28/23

6-foot-6 175-pounds. Simpson settled in after the 1st inning, and really impressed. The curveball is the biggest take away for me. He can throw it any time for a strike, which is really hard to come by for his class. The fastball was up to 86, and could have ticked up in the 2nd or 3rd when I did not have the gun on him. The frame will continue to produce higher velo throughout the year. Settling in for 3 strong innings after the 4 spot in the first was really impressive, and is promising to see for any young starting pitcher. The game could have easily gotten away from Simpson, but he kept them in the game, and it paid off with a late rally by the offense. Eston will be a high follow for us throughout the spring and summer.
