Illinois Daily Roundup: May 17 Games

Brother Rice 2,St. Laurence 0
Brother Rice (23-9; 11-5) and Concordia-College-bound Brian Musielak cost the Crusaders rival defending CCL-Blue champion St. Laurence a second consecutive outright CCL-Blue title. St. Laurence (26-4; 13-3) had to settle for a co-championship with St. Rita (28-3; 13-3).

Musielak was magnificent, firing a three-hit shutout at the Vikings. Musielak struck out two and walked one. The Crusaders got on the board in the second inning against St. Laurence ace RHP Mike Kornacker (7-2). Senior Eric Leiser singled to lead off the top of the second. Sophomore Andy Dyke followed with a single to right. Red-hot senior Jake Barry plated Leiser with the first run of the game when he singled. The Crusaders picked up the second run of the inning on an errant pick-off attempt.

Mahomet-Seymour 4, Stanford Olympia 1
Mahomet-Seymour (28-3; 13-1) rolled the Spartans behind senior Cully Day. Day fired a three-hitter at the Spartans and singled and drove home a Bulldog run at the plate. Jack Rettig also singled and plated a run for the 2014 Corn Belt Conference Champions.

Joliet Catholic Academy 11, St. Viator 10 (Game One)
Joliet Catholic Academy (24-6;11-4) won the slugfest in walk-off fashion at Gordie Gillespie Stadium in Joliet. After St. Viator scored four times in the top of the seventh to take a 10-9 lead, the Hilltoppers answered in a big-way in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs senior Aaron Markley’s clutch two-run single plated Danny Weis and Mitch Boe with the tying and winning runs. Junior Nick Dalesandro chipped in with a single and three RBI for the Hilltoppers.

Grayslake Central 15, Grayslake North 4
Grayslake Central (20-9; 12-5) clinched a tie for another FVC-Fox title with the rout of rival North on Saturday. Anthony Fitzgerald singled, doubled and plated three Ram runs. Pat Burba added three singles and two RBI while Freddie Landers added a single double and two RBI for the FVC-Fox leaders.
