Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Anderson Shiro Fighting Owls just missed out on the 3A playoffs last season with their young team, but with the majority of that team returning in 2024, they look primed for a bounceback season this year. Coach Robert Jackson believes the strengths of his team will be the offense and the potential base-stealing ability of the roster in 2024, as well as the pitching depth.

The Fighting Owls’ offense will be led by seniors C Peyton Cooper (uncommitted) and OF Pedro Martinez (uncommitted), juniors INF Connor Daley (uncommitted) and OF Kagan Stephens (uncommitted), and sophomore OF Davin Bialas. Daley was named Second Team All-District in 2023 and should help anchor the Fighting Owls’ defense and lineup.

Anderson Shiro has a plethora of two-way talent within the program that should allow for Coach Jackson to be creative with his roster throughout the season. Most notably on the two-way side for Anderson Shiro is Southwestern commit, RHP/INF Jordan Coronado (2024), who was a First Team All-District selection in 2023 and is likely to be the team’s ace in 2024. A quartet of two-ways joining Coronado on the pitching staff who also earned All-District honors last season will be RHP/INF Evan Borski (2025; uncommitted - 1st Team), RHP/INF Kyle Buenger (2025; uncommitted - 2nd Team), RHP/INF Logan Jackson (2026; Honorable Mention), and LHP/OF Kieran Gill (2026; Honorable Mention). The pitching staff will also include senior two-way INF/RHP Mason Kolby (uncommitted).

The Fighting Owls bring back a bunch of players that played extensively last season, and that experience should only help Anderson Shiro in 2024. Despite just missing out on the postseason last year, look for Coach Jackson’s squad to get back to the postseason this year behind their offense and deep pitching staff.
