On Saturday, Feb. 17, the Prep Baseball Wisconsin staff travels to GRB Stiks Academy to host the seventh annual West Milwaukee Preseason ID. This is an open event to all high school classes (2024-27), and continues the winter showcase circuit as we progress through 2024.

EVENT HISTORY

As it stands right now, there have been 18 commitments from last year’s event—some of which are making a return to Waukesha on Saturday. The West Milwaukee Preseason ID often serves as a hub for quality talent in the greater Milwaukee area.

Performing well at this event can lead to eventual Prep Baseball Future Games invites, as LHP Ryan Brennecke (Oconomowoc, 2025; South Carolina commit) and RHP/INF Eli Bryant (Beaver Dam, 2025; Kent State) were two athletes who took advantage of their offseason work last February to eventually represent Team Wisconsin in Georgia. Brennecke is a deceptive left-hander who sits in the mid-to-upper-80s, and showed well all throughout 2023. Bryant follows as an intriguing two-way prospect—showcasing his strength on both ends of the field. Both prospects will be returning to Waukesha on Saturday.

Similarly, C Marek Bolson (Oconomowoc, 2025; Kent State) earned an invite to the 2023 Future Games last year after standing out at the West Milwaukee Preseason ID. Bolson finished a strong round of batting practice before demonstrating his prowess behind the plate in front of our scouting staff last February—earning him the nod for Georgia in late July.

RHP Peter Kussow (Arrowhead, 2025; Louisville) was a major winner on the mound before enduring an injury that would last throughout the spring and summer. Kussow will be back on Saturday, but it was his work last season that turned heads in Waukesha. Kussow sat in the upper-80s (T90 mph) and presented nasty breaking balls in a mature arsenal.

2024 ROSTER

The 2024 roster provides numerous uncommitted prospects who are looking to make a name for themselves after an offseason of work.

OF Nathan Schopf (Oak Creek, 2025) is fresh off of a powerful showing at the 2023 Prep Baseball Future Games, where the right-handed hitter showcased his violent, but controlled swing. He finished with exit velocities in the upper-90s (T99.1 mph) and found some success in the live-game portion of the yearly event.

RHP’s Charlie Slawinski (Brookfield East, 2025) and Liam St Denis (Wauwatosa East, 2025) each stood out at the PBRT Wisconsin Open last summer—projecting as key starting pitchers for their respective teams this upcoming spring and summer. Each range in the mid-80s, as both look to take the next step in their junior year.

As for the southpaws, LHP’s Andrew Ishag (Kettle Moraine, 2025) and Colton Semmelmann (Brookfield Central, 2025) are two prospects to watch out for on Saturday. Ishag popped in the fall of 2023—rushing his fastball up to 87 mph in one of the best ‘pens of the Southern Wisconsin Open. Our staff has not seen Semmelmann in the showcase setting since this event last year, but the left-hander was up to 81 mph and showcased quality spin rates that project well in a frame that continues to fill out.

RHP/1B Rocco Conrad (New Berlin West, 2025) enters Saturday as one of the biggest bats in his class, providing power and strength from a physical 6-foot-4, 235-pound frame. His upper-90s exit velocities can be paired with his improved work on the mound, as the right-hander has hit his stride with a mid-to-upper-80s fastball that has a chance to continue to develop as he progresses in his prep career.

Rocco Conrad [6/20/23]

OF Matthew O’Grady (Badger, 2026) is a former 2023 Junior Future Games participant and enjoyed a successful spring and summer as a staple at the top of the order in any lineup. O’Grady provides a speed and power combination both offensively and defensively, which ranks him at No. 7 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class.

INF Danny Flor (Oconomowoc, 2027) showcased his competitiveness and baseball skill on the diamonds at LakePoint while representing Team Wisconsin at the 2024 Junior Future Games. Flor is a scrappy defender that presents a powerful swing from a 5-foot-9, 165-pound frame that continues to develop as he enters his freshman year of high school.

Additionally, RHP’s William Baumhardt (Slinger, 2025), Logan Zaverl (Germantown, 2025) and Tyson Grulkowski (Muskego, 2026) are three names-to-know on the bump for Saturday’s event. Baumhardt and Zaverl both range in the mid-to-upper-80s on the mound, as our staff is interested to witness their improvements over the offseason. Finally, Grulkowski was a standout underclassman last year—presenting a quality mix of pitches from an athletic, strong 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame.

There remain many athletes that our staff is excited to see on the showcase circuit, some of which for the first time. The West Milwaukee Preseason ID delivers annually, and we are curious to witness who stands out amongst a talented pool of prospects.
