With 2023 now in the past, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage that can be found anywhere in 2024. 2024 Spring Team Preview: Fisher Catholic Irish

Team Name: Fisher Catholic Irish
Head Coach: Jared Stewart
Division: IV
2023 Record: 11-10
2023 Tourney Finish: Sectional Finals loss to Newark Catholic
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 7/4

Coach Outlook: "With the success of our basketball team, we are behind in our preparation as a full team (4-5 of our starters missed the first 3 ½ weeks of baseball practice). We also have a returning starter and All-MSL player (Gavin Stewart) who is working his way back from a stress reaction injury in his lower back. He is currently not cleared to fully practice or play. Has not been allowed to swing a bat for 8 weeks and has just recently started light throwing. However, we have a great mix of veteran players and a solid group of young players who are hungry to continue the winning ways of our basketball team. Our goal is to get better every time we step on the field and to be playing our best baseball come tournament time. In terms of a league championship, we believe we have as good of a shot as anyone but it will be a battle with Fairfield Christian Academy, Berne Union, and Bishop Rosecrans. However, the sleeper team to look out for is Miller. They were much improved last year and will return almost their entire team."

Top Returning Players:

  • Peyton Owens (Sr) P/SS/C - Bats R/Throws R, Mount Vernon Nazarene University Commit – 2nd Team MSL, Honorable Mention Central District (only played 1st half of season last year due to transfer rules). Played 13 games, had .262 average, 11 hits, 11 RBI, 12 runs. Pitching he was 1-2 with a 2.78 ERA, 39 K’s in 5 appearances.
  • Gavin Stewart (Jr) LF/P - Bats L/Throws R –2nd Team MSL - .240 avg, .465 OBP, .705 OPS, 12 hits, 17 runs, 7 RBI, was hit by pitch 12 times last season.
  • Grant Keefer (Jr) IF/P – Bats R/Throws R Honorable Mention MSL - .200 avg, 11 hits, 13 RBI 
  • Simon Messerly (Sr) CF/P - Bats R/Throws R
