With 2023 now in the past, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage that can be found anywhere in 2024. Starting in February, we began releasing team previews for squads across the state. Ahead, we will have Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings coming your way.

2024 Spring Team Preview: South Point Pointers

Team Name: South Point Pointers
Head Coach: Zack Jenkins

2023 Record: 17-11
2023 Tourney Finish: District Smifinals loss to Portsmouth
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 9/5

Coach Outlook: "After going through a couple of rough rebuilding seasons we turned a major corner last season. Some guys who took their lumps as freshmen and sophomores really grew into themselves and battled. Key for us going into this season is finishing games out and getting over the hump to win the big games. We return all but one from our batting lineup and all of our arms who threw varsity last season. So the expectations for this team are pretty high. We have added depth at just about every position as well as within our pitching staff with a couple of guys returning who had missed last season."

  • Corey Otzenbarger, 1st Team all OVC HM All District, SS/RHP, 2025, 5-11, 200 R/R 1 year starter. Sophomore Stats- .331, 6 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 22 R, 21 SB. 2-0, 2 SV 16K 3BB 11IP.
  • Joey Lobaldo, 1st Team all OVC, 2nd team All District, C/1B, 2025, 6-1, 230 R/R 2 year starter. Sophomore Stats- .337, 7 2B, 2 3B, 15 RBI, 15 R, 4SB.
  • Gage Chapman, C/OF, 5-10, 190 R/R 3 year starter. Junior Stats- .291, 4 2B, 1 3B, 11 RBI, 14R, 12 SB.
  • Xathan Haney, RHP/3B, 6-3 185 R/R. 3 year starter. Junior Stats- 4-3, 1 SV, 37 2/3IP, 46K, 11BB,1.93 ERA.
  • Kolton Layman, RHP/OF, 5-10, 195 R/R. 2 year starter. Sophomore Stats- 2-2, 1 SV, 42 1/3IP, 48K, 23BB, 3.09 ERA.
