SAN DIEGO, CALIF.  In my trip down to SD I took in five games and five days. In those five days I was shown to some of the best baseball I’ve seen so far this year. Of the ten teams I saw two are PBR California Power 25 teams and five others are contenders to compete for a CIF San Diego Section title. Although not all games were competitive, I got to see players showcase some of the best facets of their games. Some are possible players that might be called in this year’s draft and some are some of the best uncommits left in CA still trying to find a home. Below are seven players that were standouts from the week of baseball I took in.

Standouts

‘21 RHP/SS Konrad Bohnert - Carlsbad HS - SDSU Signee

  • What Bohnert displayed in Carlsbad’s most recent series against Torrey Pines was the ability to be a true two-way threat for the Aztecs next year. He collected a hit in each of the three games including a booming opposite-field double to the wall in the series finale. He also got the start last Monday and shoved. Bohnert showed a repeatable delivery with a shorter stride. Comes out of a higher ¾ slot with a quick arm that has consistent arm speeds and slots. With how well he tunnels his pitches, it makes his upper 70s slider hard to pick up. His 87-90 FB got him ahead of batters early and plenty of quick outs with its hard running action causing many jam shots against RHHs. All together Bohnert is putting up one of the better HS seasons in San Diego hitting .413 at the plate and having a 4-0 record with a .88 ERA on the bump. Excited to see what he does at SDSU next year.
