2024 GHSA Preview: Woodstock Wolverines

Ian Smith
Assistant Scouting Director

The 2024 Georgia high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in mid-May inside one of Coolray Field, AdventHealth Stadium, or JI Clements Stadium at Georgia Southern University. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

Our 2024 preseason coverage continues today.

TEAM OUTLOOK

With likely the deepest group of senior talent in the region, Woodstock brings the type of experience to compete in any game this spring. Middle infield is a strength for this team with senior shortstop and Samford commit Brooks McKenna as the leader of this Wolverines ballclub on both sides of the ball, along with Albany State commit Mylon Uribe manning the keystone after a big 2023 season. Two-way talent and Wallace-Dothan commit, Caden Tuck will be tasked with a major role this spring as he will likely find himself in the starting rotation as well as a run-producer in the lineup. Multiple positions in the lineup will be filled with upper-class players who’ve been chomping at the bit for playing including third-baseman Bennie Bartolero and outfielder Ben Blankenship who will be playing with some fire. Naval Academy commit senior left-handed pitcher Kevin Maurer brings his high-level pitchability as the ace of this Woodstock team as it marches towards its fourth consecutive region title, and is backed by one of the deepest bullpens you’ll find including a couple of committed seniors in Roy Shewmake (Maryville) and Oz Eckard (Lenior-Rhyne). There’s depth everywhere you look with this club, and it’s hard to not give them a shot at their third state championship in four years.
