Tools of the Trade: Class of 2025 Arm Strength

Often times considered the "Florida of the north," Pennsylvania has surfaced as a known hot-bed for upper-echelon talent, and the class of 2024 is no different. The amount of college-ready, frontline arms may steal the spotlight at times, but a long list of position players have been just as special heading into their senior year. When undergoing the evaluation process, our staff uses the five tools (hit, power, glove, arm, and run) as a barometer for comparing players against one another. Obviously, each will need to be refined properly and accompanied by in-game success in order for them to have full effect. Today we break down one of the top tools within an exciting class of prospects.
arm strength
The name of the game is limiting runs on defense, and teams equipped with arm-strength around the field have a chance to take extra bases away from the opposition - which shows up on the scoreboard. One of the more underrated tools nowadays, the presence of it alone can be the difference between starting and sitting on the bench. Think positional flexibility; the shortstop would fit just fine at 2B or 3B, as well an outfielder being able to play at least two of the spots required. Getting more playing time starts with the arm.

Jason Fultz 3B / RHP / Cathedral Prep, PA / 2025One of the overall top players in the country at his postion, the Clemson commit is a power threat at the plate that dominates compition in gameplay settings. However, his arm strength is something that is equally impressive. We have come to know and love the backhand down the line, plant the back leg in the ground and fire a 90+ mph bullet to the first baseman. Fultz showcases a 91mph arm strength with the athletic ability to make these types of plays. Having an extremely strong arm in your back pocket can make or break games. Eliminating baserunners saves runs.

Ben Peterson C / OF / Canon-McMillan, PA / 2025One of the very best behind the plate in his class, the University of North Carolina commit proved why he is at the top at our 2023 Northeast Procase. 82mph arm with pop times in the low 1.90's out of the crouch and throws consistently on the bag, makes it tough on runners trying to advance to the next bag. Minimizing the chance for runners to get into scoring position will set yourself up for continued success. The primary catcher also flashed an impressive outfield throw of 93mph. Peterson plays light on his feet and is an athletic mover in his 6-0 frame.

Landen Rozich SS / 2B / Oxford Area, PA / 2025

The George Mason commit plays at a fast pace all while staying under control. With a 91mph arm out of his 6-1, 160lb frame is already impressive by itself and speaks to his sheer athleticism. The future is undeniably bright as he continues to add strength and size to his projectable frame.

The uncommitted OF recently made a huge jump this fall as he climbed north of 90+ mph. Already a threat at the plate he now solidifys himself as a weapon in the OF. The combination of the ability to drive the baseball for power and the capability to save runs defensively sets him apart.

One of the more impressive uncommitted prospects that we saw this fall. Perez had an incredible showing at our first ever Philadelphia Catholic League Scout Day. He played through the baseball into a smooth transition and a fast arm that will play at the next level. Minimal wasted movements as he worked into a strong throw to first base.
