2024 Georgia Power 25: #15 Pope Greyhounds

Hudson Graham
Georgia Scouting Director

The 2024 Georgia high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in mid-May inside one of Coolray Field, AdventHealth Stadium, or JI Clements Stadium at Georgia Southern University. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

Our 2024 preseason coverage continues today.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Greyhounds lose one of the most impactful players in their program in, Carson Kerce, but gain new and experienced seniors in 2024. Georgia Southern commit, Jack Myers will lead the line up with one of the smoothest swings in the class. Augusta commit, Dawson Jones will lead the Greyhounds on the mound. The lefty can compete with anyone in the state, and will be able to go late into any game in throws. Senior Bryce Chapin will be another arm that is heavily relied on. If there was a breakout players of the year in 2023, it would have been Florida State commit, John Stuetzer. The Future Gamer took 6A by storm as one of the most dynamic players in the state. Another member of Team Georgia at Future Games, Georgia Southern commit, Ethan Garrett will be the other half of the pitching duo with Dawson Jones. He was another Greyhound that had a breakout year in '23 and will be heavily relied on in '24. I expect Tanner Morneau to have a big year in 2024. He came up with a  big hit in the state championship and gained valuable time as a sophomore. Sophomore, Drew Abney saw time behind the plate as freshman, and will be the everyday guy this season as one of the top bats in the Greyhound line up. If Pope has some consistent arms in relief they have all the pieces in the line up to make another run in 2024.
