TN HS Team Preview: Trinity Christian Academy Lions

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Power 25 and much more.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Trinity Christian Academy will have a mix of veteran seniors and a handful of underclassmen that will be looking to make an impact. The Lions come into 2024 with a sense of urgency and expectations after going .500 a season ago and returning quality experience on the offensive side, as well as deep depth on the mound with six guys that have multiple innings pitched. The Lions are led by Belmont signee ‘24 Andrew Perry who is poised to have a great season. He sas a baseball IQ and will be having his first full season healthy as a pitcher since having UCL repair surgery before his junior year. ‘24 Nick Jones will play about everywhere on the diamond and plays the game with a level of physicality and aggressiveness. He is a solid bat in the top of the lineup and will eat innings up on the mound this season. ‘24 Harrison Vance is another big bat in the lineup that has impact ability to change the game with one swing. He will also double as one of their top arms in the rotation and very good defensively at first base. ‘25 Connor Quarles is a live arm that will be in line for a rotation spot who Coach Houge is looking to make a big jump from last season. The Lions also have a pair of sophomore players that should be big factors this season in SS Owen Atwood and RHP/UTL Max Richardson. Atwood was a member of the TBCA super fresh/soph team last season and has a very true glove up the middle. He hit .341 as a freshman on varsity last year with the game coming very natural to him. Richardson offers a high ceiling on the mound and showed enough promise as a freshman pitching against really solid competition to be in the mix for a starting rotation spot. This year’s club strength looks to be their athleticism with players that can play a multitude of positions. Weakness after that looks to be their frontline depth as they must stay healthy all year to make a deep run. Last year’s squad lost in Substate against eventual state champion Northpoint Christian and a talented USN team. This year, the Lions Lions look to build off of their momentum they created from last season with a state appearance on the other side of it.
