Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC is proud to release its first rankings for the Class of 2015. We have taken the time to carefully evaluate the outstanding talent throughout the Commonwealth. We have considered many factors, including each player’s current talent level and their projected ceiling. Between now and next August, these rankings will change and expand as players continue to develop and demonstrate higher levels of skill.

The current Top 10 is representative of the Commonwealth’s Class of 2015’s strengths this year, a lot of pitching, good catching, and some power bats who are versatile defenders.

Top 10 Rankings

1. Nic Enright, RHP, Steward School
Enright is a Virginia Tech commit who stands an athletic 6-foot-3. He throws from a high three-quarters slot and has a fast, long arm action. Enright has outstanding secondary stuff, with good feel for a sharp curve and late breaking slider, as well as, a late fading change-up.

2. Evan Sperling, RHP, Grafton
The Virginia commit stands an imposing 6-foot-6 on the mound and throws from a low-three quarter slot.  Sperling generates plus movement while creating good deception.  He has not sacrificed his velocity, which has been as high as 94 and usually sits 88-92. Sperling also has feel for his curveball and a change-up.

3. Nathan Trevillian, RHP, Amherst County
Liberty has landed a gem with a very high ceiling in Trevillian, who stands a lanky 6-foot-3, 160-pounds. Trevillian throws from a high three-quarters slot and has a loose, fast arm that already generates easy high 80s velocity that has been as high as 91. His change-up has good tail and he currently throws a slurvy breaking ball.

4. Chase Illig, C/1B, IMG Academy (formerly Tazewell)
The College of Charleston commit is a switch-hitting catcher with power from both sides of the plate.  Illig has balance from both side of the plate and uses his size and leverage to backspin baseballs out of the park.  Behind the plate, Illig is a big target with soft hands.  He has above average arm strength to go with a quick release and good footwork.

5. Logan Harvey, C, Douglas A. Freeman
Harvey is a 6-foot, 175-pound, Wake Forest commit that is an outstanding receiver.  He has the ability to shut down the running game with his quickness and arm strength.  At the plate, he has a line drive stroke with the ability to hit for average.  Harvey has a compact swing with good bat speed and the ability to hit the ball gap-to-gap with backspin.

6. Chesdin Harrington, RHP, Patrick Henry

Harrington is a classic Virginia-bound righty, tall, athletic, and projectable. Harrington’s fastball has been up as high as 89 mph and he usually works in the mid-80s. He has good feel for his change-up and curveball and has a frame that suggests there is more velocity to come.

7. Connor Eason, LHP, Hickory
Eason is a 6-foot-3 Virginia commit who throws from a three-quarters arm slot and hides the ball well with a slight crossfire. Eason works in the mid-to-upper 80s with an athletic frame and a long arm action. He throws a solid slider and change-up and has more velocity in the tank.

8. Stevie Mangrum, 3B, Western Albemarle
Mangrum is a Virginia Tech commit with a power and speed combination that is rare. He has run a sub-6.8 60 and has demonstrated gap or better power with the potential to develop home run power as a Hokie. Mangrum’s speed and athleticism also makes him versatile as he can slide to both corner infield or outfield spots and be a solid or better defender.

9. Nate Eikhoff, SS, Patriot
Eikhoff is an athletic Virginia commit who has outstanding hands at the plate and in the field. Eikhoff has the ability to hit for a high average, spraying line drives the other way and up the gaps from his left-handed stance. He has the bat speed to develop significant power as he fills out and begins to turn on balls.

10. Alex Griffith, C, Virginia
The Pittsburgh commit is a plus receiver that understands the game and has high energy.  He has soft hands and is agile at the position.  He has a slightly above average arm and is quick and highly accurate.  At the plate, Griffith has outstanding plate discipline and is a very tough out.  He is a line drive hitter that looks to stay in the middle of the field on a regular basis.
