The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Pearl, MS at Trustmark Park as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Magnolia State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each MHSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Coach Shay Cooper will look to a group of seniors and 8 returning starters to lead the way if Southeast Lauderdale intends on making a deep playoff run this spring. The Tigers finished 17-13 (6-4) last season after a second round loss to Saint Andrews. They do find themselves in a very tough district that includes Clarkdale and Enterprise Clark, which provides plenty of competition in preparation for the playoffs. Pitching is a big help for most playoff pushes and the quantity of arms shouldn’t be a problem for Coach Cooper, though he does hope someone steps up to lead the staff. A few that may get the first shot at it will be seniors Jacob Hostetler, Shade Hollingsworth, and Camden Cooper, along with junior Nathan Wilson. Defense also looks to be one of the main ingredients to success heading into the spring with Logan Flaskamp holding down the shortstop duties with the above-mentioned names all playing dual roles throughout the lineup. Be on the lookout for talented freshman infielder Rowan Riley as he looks to make his mark this spring for the Tigers.
