North MS/West TN Rising Stars ID: Quick Hits

Matt Miller
State Director

HERNANDO, MS - The North MS/West TN Rising Stars ID was held on Saturday, March 30th at The Gatorade Fieldhouse in Hernando, MS. This event was an open event that consisted of some prospects from the 2028-2029 classes across all parts of Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw bullpens and were able to get numbers and metrics via TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from Saturday. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release different statistical leaderboards for the event along with other pieces of content.

QUICK HITS

+ UT Ethan Killough (2028, Kossuth) was a member of our 2028 Junior Future Games roster last summer and is progressing very well. On Saturday the lean and athletic 6-2, 170 pounder showed off his well rounded development and expanded skill set. Killough was primarily a catcher at the JFG's, though on Saturday it was evident he can play about anywhere on the diamond. At the plate the left handed swinging Killough sprayed multiple liners with an event high 89.2 exit velocity.

+ C Drew Stanton (2028, Myrtle) is another former participant at the Junior Future Games that was in attendance on Saturday and is emerging as a possible big time power bat in Mississippi. Hitting from the left side, Stanton looks to pull though can drive the baseball to all fields with a polished look and plenty of aggression and exit velocities up to 88.6 mph. The solid 5-11, 190 pounder can work in a utility role as well. This weekend he had the top POP time of the day at an even 2.00 with arm velocities up to 70 from behind the plate.

+ SS Kipptyn Briggs (2028, Kossuth) is another Aggie from Kossuth that is making waves before he makes it to high school. The left handed hitting infielder had arguably the most polished swing of the event with very synced up and fluid movements and a line drive, all fields approach. The 5-9, 150 pounds Briggs carried that smoothness onto the defensive portion of the event with soft hands and a confident approach to groundballs at all angles.

+ INF/RHP Dawson McMillin (2028, Mooreville) is a solid dual prospect on the way. The 6-1, 160 pounder first showed us his ability at the plate with a level bat path and the ability to attack baseballs at the top of the zone with authority. The most impressive part of McMillin's game on Saturday may have been the command and feel for his plus change. His fastball was into the upper 70's and the mimicking arm action on his change will surely be a difficult task for opposing hitters to adjust to.

+ C/INF Ethan Pardy (2028, Desoto Central) looks to have some grit to him. The lean, athletic framed Pardy attacked the baseball as well as anyone on Saturday using a short, compact swing and multiple line drives to the middle of the field. On defense Pardy showed very quick feet, decent lines and a solid arm when behind the plate resulting in pop times as low as 2.03.  He also showed a polished look on the infield with good range and glove work on ground ball from each angle.

+ LHP/OF Bowen Vaughn (2028, Oxford) has some crazy upside in multiple areas. The long and lanky left handed hitting Vaughn showed a developing swing with loft and a pull side approach, which may result in tons of offensive production as his body continues to strengthen. His arm is most likely what will create the initial interest from recruiters as he first had an event high 83 mph from the outfield and later was up to 81 mph on the mound with a feel for the strike zone, and a 3 pitch mix that included a 12/6 breaker and solid change up.

+ OF/RHP Parker Israel (2028, Lewisburg) is another possible power arm on the way for the Patriots. The sturdy built righty hopped on the mound towards the end of the day and was all over the strike zone with his fastball and up to an event high 82.3 mph. Isreal still has some development ahead of him with his secondary offerings though the arm works and his velocity should continue to improve as he matures. At the plate the right handed swinging outfielder had exit velocities up to 88 mph on Saturday with a level bat path and middle to opposite field approach.
