Mountain Ridge Holds Off Basha in 6A Matchup

Will Arnold
Arizona Director of Scouting

Mountain Ridge was able to hold off Basha who seemed like they were one swing away from being at least a tied the entire game. Zach Martinez was able to lock in with runners in scoring position to keep a loaded Basha lineup tame. Garrett Olson got the Mountain Lions on the board with an RBI single in the 2nd inning after a leadoff single by Keegan Stancato and sac bunt by Tate Childers.

The 2nd and 3rd runs run came in the 4th inning. The first was from another batted ball by Olson. This one going straight through the first baseman’s legs scoring Tate Childers after his leadoff double and sac bunt by AJ Singer. The second run was on a single from Kyler Stancato, who smoked a ball just outside of the reach of the first basemen. Travis Warinner added a ground rule double in the inning to put runner and 2nd and 3rd for Kyler Stancato.

Basha answered back quickly in the bottom half of the 4th from a single by Cam LaLiberte, who stole 2nd, advances to 3rd on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch from Martinez.

Brock Peery came in to close for Mountain Ridge and get the final two outs against the top of the loaded Basha lineup. He induced weak contact to both hitters including a 5-4 and weak popup to first base to end it.
