Area Codes Mini Camp

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

Area Codes hosted a mini-camp in Arkansas on Wednesday, June 17th at Perfect Timing in Fayetteville, AR. It was moved indoors due to weather. The staff at Perfect Timing did a great job hosting the large number of players that attended the work out. Here is a look at some of the players that had a good day.

Drew Young 2016 RHP Bentonville HS
Young is a 6-foot-1 205-pound RHP pitcher with a large frame and an athletic build. He commands the strike zone well with his fastball, locating on both sides of the plate. He threw a curveball and changeup as his secondary pitches. He uses repeatable mechanics with fluid rhythm. He pitches from an H ¾ arm slot with a shorter arm action. Overall Young is a physical athlete with a strong arm and some pitchability.

Collin Cahill 2016 LHP Conway HS
Cahill is a 6-foot-5 200-pound LHP with a large frame and an athletic build. He works from an H ¾ arm slot with a loose quick arm. He would benefit from having a more distinguished balance point and consistent rhythm. Other than those issues he is sound mechanically finishing with extension to home plate. He is a two guy throwing a fastball and curveball. He commands the fastball well and uses the curveball as his strike out pitch. The curveball has sharp action with 1/7 break but he has the tendency to bury the pitch out of the strike zone. Overall Cahill is very projectable, as he cleans up some timing issues and continue to develop he will throw harder and be a very sound collegiate pitcher.

Jacob Williams 2017 RHP Bentonville HS
Williams is a 6-foot 170-pound RHP with a medium frame and an athletic build. He commands the strike zone with an above average fastball and mixing in an advanced curveball with 11/5 late sharp break. He uses repeatable mechanics with balance and rhythm throughout his delivery.  He pitches from an H ¾ arm slot with a fast arm speed. His arm circle could stand to be longer but that is a personal preference. Overall a very projectable athlete as he continues to improve, but at his age he shows two above average pitches.

Position players that stood out were 2017 OF Caleb Kimbrel Har-Ber HS, 2018 CIF Luke Johnson Shiloh Christian HS and 2016 CIF Ty Kosters Arkadelphia HS. These players showed advanced offensive ability during the batting practice portion of the work out.

Players will be selected from this event to participate in the Regional work out next Tuesday June 23rd, 2015 at Broken Arrow High School in Broken Arrow, OK. They have the opportunity to advance from that work out to participate in the Area Code Games later in the summer.
