PBR Spotlight Game: Mississauga North Tigers 18u vs. East York Bulldogs

Brampton – Two teams in Division B met in round robin play of the Brampton Minor Baseball Midget Early Bird Tournament at Chris Gibson Park. The Mississauga North Tigers went up against the East York Bulldogs.

The Tigers took the game by a score of 5-1 behind a solid pitching performance by starter Jake Ervin as well as timely hitting and excellent defense.

Ervin gave up only four hits, while walking one and hitting another; the righty gave up only one unearned run and struck out three over four strong frames.

Jake helped himself at the plate as well. In his first at bat with runners on first and second, he hit a double over the outfielder’s head scoring both runners. Ervin finished the game 1-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Although the Tigers would later tack on three more runs, no more offense was needed during the game for them to pick up the win.

East York’s lone run of the game came in the top of the first inning after first baseman and 2016 grad Andrew O’Brien doubled to the gap in right-centre. Cleanup hitter Doug Skillcorn hit a hard groundball that shortstop Brandon Chong couldn’t quite handle allowing O’Brien to score all the way from second in what was East York’s only run of the game.

Chong did have a good game at the plate, and he finished 1-2 with a walk, a stolen base and scored two of his team’s five runs in the contest.
