Commitment Q&A: Austin Pounds

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

2024 RHP Austin Pounds (Archbishop Hannan HS) recently announced his commitment to the seven-time NJCAA DII National Champion LSU-Eunice Bengals.  Pounds first peaked our interest at our Senior Games event last fall, and has been a steady riser in the state's 2024 class, thanks to a projectable 6'3" frame, long/loose arm action, and a mid-upper 80's heater.  Below, we took some time to discuss his recent commitment to the Bengals, as well as his upcoming senior season.

1. Congratulations on your recent commitment to LSU-Eunice!  What factors led to your decision to commit to the Bengals?

"LSU-E has been known to be at the top of the rankings each year, which first caught my eye.  They have also done a great job at prepating athletes to succeed and continue on to big division one schools.  These were the deiciding factors in my decision to commit to LSU-Eunice."

2. When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you?  Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

"Things really took off for me after I attended the PBR Louisiana Senior Games at LSU-Eunice.  They first saw me throw against St. Thomas More in the quarterfinals last year."

3. What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get to where you are?

"My main advice would be to let the process take place.  Not every player is going to develop the same or super early and get college looks in your early years of high school.  Keep your head down and keep paving your own path."

4. How would you describe yourself as a player for LSU-Eunice fans that may not know you yet?

"Intensity.  I strive for competition and wins.  I'll always compete in every situation that I'm in, whether I'm up 10 runs or down 10 runs."

5. What can high school baseball fans expect out of Archbishop Hannan this year?

"To be surprised.  Hannan hasn't been known for their baseball program, but I think this year will be different.  We have a couple of guys that can really play and make a difference in the game.  Expect for our pitching staff to carry us, but the bats are sneaky.  This will be the best year in program history."
