By: Diego Solares
Area Scout, Illinois & Missouri

With the year coming to an end, our staff is taking some time to highlight and reflect on the most viewed profiles in Missouri throughout 2023. We’ll be counting down to the top spot, starting with No. 10 earlier in the week working our way down, releasing the most viewed name prior to the end of the year.

Our profiles serve as an all-in-one platform for players, hosting vendors such as verified stats, event video, contact information, and more. To create a free PBR profile, click HERE.

We've already released three stories, which you can find here:

+ No. 10 Tytus Cissell
+ No. 9 Drew Dickerson
+ No. 8 Trey Snyder
+ No. 7 Kade Durnin
+ No. 6 Leo Humbert
+ No. 5
Henry Vedder
+ No. 4 Caeden Cloud

We’ll keep making our way to No. 1 on our list today with the third most viewed profile in the state this year, INF Nazzan Zanetello (CBC, 2023; Boston Red Sox).

A freak athlete in every sense of the word, Zanetello started to generate plenty of positive buzz after an impressive workout at the Super 60.

He clearly passes the eye test, filling out the uniform with a muscled-up 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame that still offers room to tack on more muscle mass. From an athletic standpoint, Zanetello checks several boxes. He ran a 6.62 60-yard dash on our Swift lasers, reaching a peak run speed of 21 mph, and he also jumped 34 inches in the vertical test. His bat speed and rotational acceleration Blast Motion metrics are elite, and he generated noticeable jump off the barrel with a wood bat in BP despite not exerting much effort in doing so. If he wasn’t already a must-see name for Area Scouts, Zanetello firmly entrenched himself as someone everyone needed to check on after his trip to McCook in early February.

From 2/9/23: “...With athleticism off the chart, Zanetello was a clear standout at the event as he hardly broke a sweat while shining in all aspects. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Arkansas recruit possesses a frame that oozes athleticism as well as projection with plenty of strength still likely to be obtained in coming years. After cruising to a 6.62 60-yard dash time, the right-handed hitter compiled a pair of mature rounds in batting practice needing minimal effort to deliver a strong barrel through the zone. His controlled aggression provided for elite rotational acceleration as he generated significant bat speed without needing many moving parts. A simple short stride allowed the hands to quietly move into a power position with shorter separation before quickly working the barrel to the ball on a direct path with a rather controlled finish. Zanetello’s athleticism allows him to play all over the diamond, and his strong arm (95 mph from the outfield, 90 mph across on the infield) might even give him a chance to pitch if needed. The tools are obviously loud thanks to the elite athleticism and frame, and should the hit-tool show well throughout the spring, look for Zanetello to creep up draft boards.”

(2/5/23)

Playing against quality competition on a game-to-game basis, Zanetello absolutely raked all spring for his Cadets squad. He slashed .421/.557/.813 across 143 plate appearances, homering nine times, with 21 extra-base hits in total, and he walked (24) more than he struck out (17) while also chipping in 21 stolen bases. Our staff took in live looks at Zanetello a handful of times last spring and he thoroughly impressed, especially in CBC’s playoff bout against Kirkwood late in the year.

From 5/23/23: “...Arkansas signee. One of the nation’s top prospects, slotted at No. 2 in Missouri’s senior class and No. 90 overall in the country. Really looks the part in a uniform, stands at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds with present strength and room for more. Started at shortstop and hit in the two-hole for the Cadets in this look. Screamed a no-doubt home run over the left-center fence from a fast, athletic, and level right-handed swing. Floated around the infield in pregame, helped turn a key double play for the Cadets late in the game, too. Continues to draw plenty of professional buzz as the MLB Draft approaches.”

(5/18/23)

It was almost a foregone conclusion by the end of the MSHSAA season that Zanetello was going to do well in the MLB Draft. That came to fruition when the Boston Red Sox selected him with the 50th overall pick and paid him $3 million to sign, nearly doubling the assigned slot value to his selection ($1.7 million). Zanetello should enter next year in full-season ball with one of the Red Sox minor league affiliates and is widely regarded a top-10 prospect in Boston’s system.
