As we near the end of 2023, our staff would like to take a look back at the standout players and standout moments from the Virginia/DC High School Season. We have selected five end of the year categories where we will pick out the ten best players/moments for that specific category.

After we presented numbers two through ten of the best pitching performances from the 2023 high school season, we want to highlight the 2023 VA/DC High School Rewind: Best Overall Pitching Performance. Coming in at the top overall spot is Super 60 alum, Riverside graduate, and current Duke freshman, Kyle Johnson. The left handed arm absolutely dominated a visiting Woodgrove team during this outing. Johnson was up to 94, while holding velo throughout his five inning complete game no-hitter. Johnson collected twelve strikeouts, twenty-one swings and misses, and was absolutely dialed in all night. VA/DC Scouting Director Jason Burton was on hand for that outing and had this to say: "Kyle was locked in from the first pitch. He had a little lull in velo for a few pitches in the second or third, but he picked it right back up and had this one in the bag. His last pitch of the night was a 93 mph fastball and he had hitters looking very uncomfortable in at bats. It was the best performance we saw all year long, from first pitch to last pitch, hitters did not stand a chance."

Best Pitching Performance of 2023
