On Saturday two of the top baseball teams in Region X met for a pivotal conference series in Hickory, NC as the Southeastern CC Rams visited the Catawba Valley Red Hawks.  The teams were just one game apart in the standings heading into the weekend.

Game 1 - Saturday April 6

Southeastern CC   4 Catawba Valley CC   3

Game one saw strong pitching performances from both teams.  CVCC starter Blake Dockery worked into the eighth inning, allowing 1 earned run and striking out 14. Despite a strong start from Dockery, Southeastern CC was able to capitalize on an error and score 3 unearned runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 3 apiece.  The Rams took the lead for good in the eighth when Drew Lovin drew a bases loaded walk to go ahead 4-3.

Southeastern starter JJ Oxendine was tough on the mound all day.  CVCC got to him in the fourth inning scoring 3 runs on a Sabion Thomas double and Tyler Campbell single, but that would be the only inning CVCC would score.  Oxendine went the distance scattering 7 hits and striking out 7 to earn the win for the Rams.
