Uncommitted Spotlight: '21 Dominik Tavares

Tavares is a scrappy prospect out of Basic Academy that has plus instincts at a premium position. The sure handed middle infielder was off to a blistering start at the plate, hitting .636 (11 for 15) in the shortened four game season that had promise to become his breakout year. During his sophomore campaign, Tavares hit .337 in his 95 at bat with his only 5 strikeouts on the year, proving his gritty style of play shines through in each part of his game. Though he does come in a compact frame at 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, he understands his game and excels with the tools he has. He may project to end up moving over to the right side of the infield, he does have the arm and athleticism to remain on the left side. This is a prospect that is already on multiple teams boards and could be one of the first prospects off the board once baseball starts again.

Positional Profile: MIF. His size may shift him over to the right side of the infield, but he does posses the arm strength and instincts to remain at the shortstop position. Excellent athleticism.
Body: 5-foot09, 165-pounds. Compact, proportionate build. Has room to add strength and size.
Defense: Sure handed. Clean, smooth actions through the ball. One of the top defenders in the state. Can range to both forehand and backhand sides. Athleticism shine through.
Arm: RH - 83 mph. Short, quick arms cycle. High 3/4 arm slot. Accurate, carry on his throws. Can throw from different arm angels.
Hit: RHH. Athletic set up. Minimal pre-pitch movement. Concise load with a high leg kick that gets down in time. Efficient hand path with his hands staying inside the ball. Extends well through the ball and remains balanced throughout.
Power: 78 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Run: 7.34 runner. Underway runner. Excellent instincts on the base paths.

An INVITE ONLY event featuring top 2021 prospects from around the state. The event will take place on Tuesday, July 7 - Wednesday, July 8 at UNLV Players will participate in a pro-style workout, followed by simulated game-play.
The event is limited in the number of participants. Pitchers will be evaluated/videoed during live game action. Rosters will be organized/built by specific positions to maximize playing time/exposure for each player.
