The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

It was another historic season in 2023 for the Phil Campbell Bobcats, as they reached their third-consecutive Final 4 in Class 3A. They Bobcats were amongst the top teams in Class 3A last spring, and were ranked inside the top-5 for the majority of the season. There's some turnover on the roster this spring, but the Bobcats will look to continue their winning ways with newer faces in 2024. 

Winners of the Class 3A State Championship in 2021, Phil Campbell has consistently become on of the powerhouse programs in Class 3A in the state of Alabama. They've continued to churn out next-level prospects over the past few seasons, including SS Mason Swinney, who is fighting for playing time at Alabama as a sophomore this spring. There is just two positional starters and two pitchers returning from last year's team, but Coach Harris & co. are excited about a particular group of younger arms that have talent, but are just unproven. INF Cody Quinn (2024) should be a key piece for this team once again after hitting .275 in batting average in 2023. He returns to second bsae after starting there every game last spring. RHP/OF Eli Taylor (2024) and RHP/SS Koltin Hester (2025) are a pair of upperclassmen two-way prospects that should lead the way both at the plate and on the mound. Taylor posted a 10-2 record last year with a 1.16 ERA as a junior, while Hester served as the designated hitter and hit .283 in batting average with a 2-0 record on the mound. Looking at some other notable position players who are returning, some of those players to watch for this spring are OF Isac Hill (2024), 3B Hunter Motes (2024), C Bentley Hill (2025), and OF Braxton Mayfield (2025). All of those players have shown flashes in the past and are looking to have breakout seasons for the Bobcats. On the mound, the Bobcats should have some quality depth throughout their piching staff. RHP/1B Cale Faust (2025), RHP/3B Cohl Welborn (2025), RHP/INF Trace Duboise (2025), and RHP/UTL Chandler Benford (2027) are a few of those names who should all throw important innings for the Bobcats on the mound this spring.

Phil Campbell will look to continue their trend of recent success at the Class 3A level this spring with plenty of newcomers on this year's roster. The Bobcats will compete in Area 15 against Colbert County and Colbert Heights for a berth in the Class 3A playoffs at the end of the regular season. Look for Phil Campbell to once again be a major threat for a deep playoff run in Class 3A in 2024.
