6/17/19- 6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. #32 ranked player in MN 2020 class. 6.80 runner. Square stance, stays short to contact, consistently squares baseball, line drive and flyball contact, flashes of pop in bat, 90 mph exit velocity. Longer arm action, loses momentum on throws, solid accuracy to target, recently converted to OF to take advantage of speed and athleticism, 79 mph arm strength.

 

 

7/11/18- 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting short-stop.  6.90 runner.  Athlete with sneaky pop.  Rhythm can be choppy in load and develop slight arm bar.  Gap to gap approach with line drive contact.  Solid bat and size.  85 mph exit velocity.  IF- Moves athletically to ball with a slight bent over fielding position.  Fields the ball well out in front.  74 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.

 

 

3/17/18- 6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting short-stop. 6.88 runner. Physical athletic build. Open stance and strides to square, deeper hand slot, drives through ball with extension through contact, uses whole field, hard contact with projectable pop in bat, 87 mph exit velocity. Active feet in field, works low and out front, sure hands, inconsistent footwork that will continue to improve, 77 mph arm across infield.

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Gordon: The culture that the team has seems like a great fit for me, I love the city and they offer great academics

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Gordon: CSP, UWL, St. Thomas 

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Gordon: At a high school game. I got on campus a few times and fell in love with it. 

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Gordon: Yes, I’m very relieved. It was a really tough decision for me especially since I also had to decide whether or not to play football as well, but I’m thrilled with my decision and I’m ready to focus on this upcoming high school season. 

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Gordon: I got a few buddies from my high school team that are currently on the roster at UMD and they have nothing but great things to say about the school and the baseball program. They played a huge role in my decision-making process. 

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Gordon: I’ve trained at starters sports training since I was in 8th grade and the training I received from Josh Threlkeld, Joe Loftus, Cory Gliden, Andy Judkins, and Bryan Johns over the years was phenomenal. Also, Coach Allen Iverson helped my passion for the game grow, and I can’t thank him enough for everything he has done for me. 

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Gordon: The whole process was very exciting. When a school shows interest in you it makes you feel good about your talent. The easiest way to grab a coach’s attention is the little things like, always running a hard 90, and running on and off the field. 

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Gordon: A spot on the starting roster isn’t given to anybody and I have the opportunity to compete for a spot and earn playing time. 

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Gordon: Playing Chanhassen in the first round of sections and putting together 6 runs with two outs in the top of the 7th to win. 

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Gordon: Max Carlson. He has great velocity on his fastball, but what makes him so difficult to hit off is his ability to mix speeds and locate all of his pitches. I have a lot of respect for him.
