The 2018 MN Club League Scout Blog provides insider information, videos and scouting notes collected by the PBR MN Scouting Staff through this falls game action. This running blog will feature information on underclass prospects, unsigned seniors, draft prospects, and anything else that is notable. We will provide a wide range of information, including player evaluations, videos, velocities, pop times, home to first times, and more. The Fall Club League is designed by and for participating organizations to add value to their players and families by providing competitive and collaborative baseball experiences during the fall months.  Participating organizations are required to provide a standard of consistent competition. This will enhance the experience and  increase exposure for all participating players. 

Participating in the 2018 season are a collection of six of the top club teams within the state of Minnesota. They are Great Lakes, Icemen, MASH Baseball, Northstar, Pine Tar Academy and Starters.

Week 5 10/6-7/18

18U Division

+ 2019 Adam Mazur, RHP/SS, (NorthStar Navy) had all 3 pitches working, sitting 84-88 mph with his fastball that had arm side run, curveball had tight spin with 11/5 break. Change-up sat around 71-76 mph with some fade action. He also had couple of hits at the plate.

+ 2019 RHH, Andrew Gustafson, (NorthStar Navy) also drilled a key double that drove in 2 runs.  He flashes some pop in that bat with a mid/pull approach.

+ 2019 Drew Grindahl, RHP, (Icemen Gottschalk) was sitting 84-88 mph with some arm side run, curveball was at 70-71 mph with 12/6 break.  The two-way player flashes solid actions in the field with gap to gap approach at the plate.

+ 2019 Jaxon Fenn, RHH, (Icemen Gottschalk) had a couple hits in the game.  Smaller body guy with middle approach and line drive contact.

+ 2019 RHH, Ben Palmer, SS, (Icemen Gottschalk) consistently barreled the baseball over the weekend. Line drive swing with some bat speed. Solid actions defensively and arm plays.

+ Great Lakes 17U Black was led by multiple RHH hitters from, 2019 Alec Curtis 2-2, 2020 Nate Brennan, 2-2 and drove in 2 runs, and 2020 Mitchel Gutknecht was 2-3. Overall, they displayed good quality AB’s and a patient approach.

+ 2020 RHH, Max Moris, C, (Great Lakes 17U Black) had a solid weekend.  Showing some bat speed at the plate. Gap to gap approach with some strength in barrel. Receives well and strong arm that carries behind the plate.

+ 2020 Brett Bateman, LHP/OF, (Great Lakes 17U Black) fastball was sitting 82-84 mph with some arm side run. Curveball was at 69-70 mph with 1/7 break. Change was working with fade action at 71-74 mph

+ 2019 RHH, Brandan Brolin (PineTar 18U) had a couple of hits with a triple off the fence. He flashes pull pop from a flat swing path.

+2020 RHH, Konnor Kirchoffner (MN MASH- Johnson) big projectable outfielder with a strong arm.  Displays rhythm at the plate with pop in the bat.  Gap to gap approach with line drive swing plane.

16U Division

+ 2021 RHH, Ben Meuser (Northstar Neon) longer frame and athletic body- outfielder that shows mid/pull approach with some strength in the bat.  Aggressive swing that smashed a double to left center.

+ 2021 RHH, Miles Liebren, OF, (Great Lakes Black) plays aggressively on both sides of the ball.  Showed range defensively by taking away some hits.  At the plate he displays strength and size with a consistent barrel and bat speed.

15U Division

+ 2022 LHP, Aaron Smith (Icemen Sutterer) on a cold day fastball was sitting 78-80 mph with some run. 1/7 break on curveball with good spin and shape.  Good quick arm action that projects out with added strength.

+ 2022 RHH, Max Morris (Icemen Sutterer) has some strength in his swing.  Athletic body with pull pop. Mid/pull approach and flashes bat speed with an aggressive swing.

+ 2022 RHH, Tyler Robillard (Icemen Sutterer) shows the ability to drive the ball to both gaps. Present strength and good frame that with added strength will develop more pop in swing.

+ 2022 RHH, Micahel Gabbard (Starters Klefsaas) smaller body guy with a middle approach and solid swing.  Line drive and ground ball contact and controls the barrel well.

+ 2022 RHH, Weber Neels, C, (Northstar Navy) receives well and has arm strength.  Ball carries well from behind the plate.  Strong athletic body with good size.  Gap to gap approach with a line drive swing and decent bat speed.

 

Week 4 9/30/18

18U Division

+ 2019 RHH Colin Spellman (Pine Tar) had the key hit and RBI to RF to beat Mash Varsity Johnson 1-0.  Middle approach and can use the whole field well. 

+ 2019 Logan Ehlemze CF (Pine Tar) had an outstanding game in the CF taking some hits away in the gaps. Speedy kid that can track the ball well and has plenty of range defensively. 

+ 2022 LHH Maddox Mihalakis 2022 (CatchFire) showed opposite field power with some shots to the LC gap. He had multi hits in their first game as well. He’s a young kid that shows patience and discipline in the strike zone.  Physically has great upside to him.

+ 2020 RHH Charlie McNeil (Pine Tar 17U) showed a gap to gap approach and the ability to hit with some power. In consecutive at bats he drilled back to back doubles in the left center gaps.

+ Couple of Great Lakes Varsity 2019 pitchers Braden Mork and Ryan Thelen were sitting around 83-86 mph with their FBs, It was cold and windy so off speeds were limited. The breaking balls that were thrown had 11/5 break and with solid depth. 

16U Division

+ 2021 LHH, Kal Brohmer, INF, (Northstar Navy) showed a smooth swing from the left side.  Gap to gap approach with line drive contact.  Athletic body and movements that takes aggressive swings

+ 2021 LHH, Alex Ritzer, SS, (Northstar Navy) displayed solid actions in the field and made plays.  In the box he starts from an open athletic stance.  Rhythm in load and swing with a middle of the field approach.

+ 2021 Lucas Hess, RHP, (Icemen- Nockleby) was 77-78 mph with his fastball.  He was able to stay down in the strikes zone.  Curveball was 67-68 mph with 11/5 break and ok shape and spin. 

+ 2021 RHH Cody Martinson, 2B, (Icemen- Nockleby) has solid actions defensively.  Sure hands with a quick release.  Scrappy at the plate and will use the whole field.  Plays hard and aggressive.

 + 2021 RHH Dylan Dietrich (MN MASH- Martin) presents a strong frame.  Has pull pop and shows decent bat speed.  Mid/pull approach at the plate and barreled a couple balls on swings.

15U Division

+ 2022 RHH, Kyle Law, OF, (Icemen Sutterer) used the whole field in his game. Smashed a 2B to left and now a 1B to right. Athletic frame with some pull side pop.  Plays aggressive on both sides.

+ 2022 Aaron Smith, LHP, (Icemen Sutterer) sat 80-82 mph with his fastball that had running action.  Plenty of strikes that filled up the strikes zone.  Quick arm that throws from a ¾ arm slot is a guy to keep an eye on.

 

Week 3 9/23/18

18U Division

+ 2019 Braden Mork, RHP, (Great Lakes Black) sitting 83-87 mph with FB and arm side run with a 2-seam FB. CB was working with 11-5 break and solid spin at 69-71 mph.  Works from ¾ arm slot.  Projectable frame with room to fill out and grow.

+ 2019 RHPs, Tyson Stritesky and Frankie Volkers, (Starters- Mitchell).  Stritesky was working his FB with some run sitting 81-82 mph. Curveball is hard and late with good spin at 72-73 mph.  Throws from ¾ arm slot and clean arm action.  Strike thrower and locates well.  Volkers sat 84-86 mph with his FB.  Compact body type and good arm action.  CB was 72-73 mph 11/5 break with decent spin and shape. 

+ 2019 RHH Taylor Brodersen, C, (Starters- Mitchell) with 2 hits, flashed pop in the bat with a 2B to Left-center. Some strength in swing with gap to gap approach.

+ 2019 RHH Lucas Ammons, SS, (Starters- Mitchell) showed pull side pop with a double to left.  Longer lanky frame with speed.  Arm plays well from short and has solid carry.

+ 2019 RHH Benjamin Palmer, SS, (Icemen- Gottschalk) presents a long and skinny frame.  Athletic movements both in the box and defensively.  Middle of the field approach with line drive contact.  Solid swing plane and some pop in bat.

+ 2019 RHH Drew Grindahl, 3B, (Icemen- Gottschalk) with a solid all-around day.  Athletic type frame and thick lower half.  Smooth swing with rhythm and athletic movements.  Plays aggressive on both sides of the ball.

+ 2019 RHH Derek Palmer, 1B, (Icemen- Gottschalk) showed pull pop. Big frame with strength in body.  Short to contact with gap to gap approach

+ 2019 Ben Borrman, RHP, (Icemen- Gottschalk) worked 79-81 mph with his FB. Topping at 84 mph. Worked the zone, mixed with 12/6 CB. Also took aggressive swings at the dish

+ 2020 LHHs Carter McLaughlin and Dylan Wilson, (Icemen- Airey) McLaughlin presents an athletic frame and a gap to gap approach.  Line drive swing plane that drilled a 2B to right-center.  Wilson with a middle approach and made solid line drive contact.  Both hit in the middle of the order.

+ 2020 Garrett Synstelien, RHP, (Catchfire) worked a heavy FB at 78-81 mph. Works from low 3/4 arm slot. CB worked 72-73 mph with decent spin and shape.  Bigger body and size. 

+ 2019 Graham Netten, RHP, (Northstar Navy) sat 81-84 mph with varying FB action and topped at 85 mph.  Slider was 72-74 mph with hard late break and is a swing and miss pitch.  Hides the ball well and ball jumps on hitter. 

+ 2019 Adam Mazur, SS, (Northstar Navy) the South Dakota State commit, showed a smooth swing and rhythm at the plate when he had a hit down the LF line. Quick swing and short to contact.  Athletic build and body type.

+ 2021 Trent Joles, C, (17U Great Lakes Red) is a thick strong athlete.  Works really hard behind the plate and has a plus arm.  Smooth overall receiver.  Swings hard and aggressive with strength to his barrel. 

+ 2019  Colin Spellman, RHP, (Pine Tar) threw the ball well in his outing.  Three pitch mix with his FB 78-79 mph w/run topping at 81 mph.  Big 11/5 break on CB and change-up had solid cut action. 

+ 2020 Max Moris, C, (17U Great Lakes Black) plays really hard and does a lot of things well.  Good frame and strong swing.  Line drive hitter and runs the bases well. 

16U Division

+ 2021 Tucker Novotny, LHP,  (NorthStar Navy)  sitting at 79-81 mph with his FB that had arm side run.  Throws from ¾ arm slot. CB had good break and tight spin. 

2021 Ethan Voss, RHP, (Northstar Navy) FB sat 81-82 mph and touched 83 mph a couple times. Good body with room to fill out. Long arms with a slinging type arm action. CB was at 61-63 mph with 11/5 break.

+ 2021s Ben Rosin, Alex Berreth, and Jordan Young, (MN MASH- Jones), Rosin had 3 doubles with all 3 in gaps with power.  Shows the ability to use the whole field.  Big body kid, barrels ball with pop.  RHH Alex Berreth and RHH Jordan Young also had hits and RBIs and looked good at the plate.

+ 2021 RHH Tony Ingram, (Great Lakes Black) hit a HR that carried well in LC gap.  Strength in swing with solid bat speed and athletic frame.

+ 2021 RHH Nathan Rosenberg, C, (Starters- Nesbit) drilled a 2B to left field.  Shows pull side pop with solid bat speed and strong barrel.  Bigger frame with strong athletic build.

+ 2021 RHH Ricky Petroff, C, (Icemen- Nockleby) showed pop to the middle of the field.  Gap to gap approach with upper half strength in swing.  Arm carries well from behind the plate with accuracy. 

+ 2021 RHH Ben Taxdahl, (MN MASH- Martin) takes aggressive big swings.  Solid bat speed with strength in barrel.  Good solid frame with athletic build.  Works hard.

+ 2021 RHH Garrett Long, (MN MASH- Martin) had a nice day at the plate.  Smooth swing that showed the ability to drive the ball for extra bases. 

+ 2021 LHH Nolan Johnson, (MN MASH- Martin) smaller frame with a gap to gap approach.  Drove a 2B to the opposite field.  Smooth swing with solid contact through the zone. 

15U Division

+ 2022 RHH Jonah Alleckson, (Great Lakes Red) showed power with a 2B and 3B to the gaps, solid body and strong swing.  

+ 2022 RHH Ryan Smith, (Great Lakes Red) had a hard hit with 2 RBI.  Consistent barrel and level swing plane.

+ 2022 RHH Ty Kickhaefer, (Pine Tar) looked strong at the plate.  He had consistent contact all day and some hard-hit balls.


WEEK 2 9/16/18

18U Division

2020 Nick Friedman, RHH (NorthStar Neon). Presents an athletic body in the box, with balanced and potential power guy. Gap to gap approach with decent bat speed.  Made solid consistent contact every at bat. 

2020 RHH Lucas Partianen (Legends). Showed pull power with 2 doubles down the LF line and had 4 RBIs.  Swing is short to contact with strength in barrel.

2020 Jett Heinen, RHP, (17U Starters- Threlkeld).  Sat 83-85 mph with fastball that flashed glove side movement and an 11/5 curveball was 69-70 mph with tight spin and good shape.

2020 Blake Gulden, LHP, (Great Lakes 17U Black). Sat around 77-78 mph with nothing overpowering but had all 3 pitches working with above average command of his pitches. His curveball had 1/7 sharp break and was 63-65 mph.

2020 Max Morris, RHH C (Great Lakes 17U Black). Showed opposite field power to the RC gap with a 2B that scored couple of runs. Showed consistent barrel in all his AB’s.  Flashes bat speed the ability to use the whole field.

2019 RHH Garret Amelse (MN MASH- Johnson). Went 3-3 with every ball barreled. A middle approach and showed consistent contact in the box

2019 RHH Alex Watermann, (MN MASH- Johnson)  had some quality at bats with some RBI’s. Showed power with double and some deep fly balls. Lanky kid showed bat speed and strength in barrel. Also, a patience approach and poise at the plate.

16U Division

+ MN MASH- Jones did it on the mound and in the box yesterday.  On the mound a couple of 2021 RHPs in Alex Berreth and Ben Ronsin led the way.  Bereth was 77-78 mph topping at 80 mph with fastball sink.  Longer frame and arm works well from a ¾ arm slot.  Rosin sat 79-81 and topped at 82 mph with his heavy fastball.  Curveball was 11/5 break with loose spin at times but was for strikes. 

+ In the box 2021 Catcher Tyler Wombacher has size and strength.  We had a home run and 2 doubles to left.  Mid/pull approach with pop and solid bat speed.  2021 SS Zack Zaetta was solid at the plate.  Good rhythm and athletic presence in the box.  Also, has above average speed and runs the bases aggressively. 

2020 RHH Josh Peroz, (Icemen- Eernisse) was solid at the plate.  Longer lanky frame that was consistent with his barrel.  Flashed some pop when he drilled a 2B to center.

15U Division

2022 Kristofer Hokenson, LHP (Northstar Navy) fastball was sitting 73-75 mph. Throws from a 3/4 arm slot and arm works well. Younger body and arm with room to grow.

+ A couple of 2022 bats from Northstar Navy in RHH Weber Neels and RHH Jackson Tessman.  Weber Neels, catcher showed decent strength in the box with a double off the wall to left and strong arm behind the plate with good carry.  Tressman defensively shows solid actions and makes the routine play.  Arm carries well with accuracy.

+  2022 Kyle Hrncir, SS, (MN Mash- McGuiggan) displays a longer athletic frame. Shows decent bat speed and strength.  Gap to gap approach that has potential to hit for power.

2022 Kyle Hvidsten, RHP, (Starters- Klefsaas) was solid on the mound.  Compact body with controlled delivery and balance was sitting 78-80 mph T82 early. Short arm action from a ¾ arm slot.  Struggled with command at times but the arm strength is there.

2022 Jake Ryan, 1B, (Starters- Klefsaas) RHH flashed some pop in the bat.  Big body and frame with room to grow.  Gap to gap approach and had an opposite field double.

 

Week 1 9/9/18

18U Division

+ 2020 Will Wamre, RHP, (MN MASH- Firpo)- Fastball ranged 79-82 mph with some arm side run, his curveball was 63-67 mph with 10-4 to 11-5 type break with ok shape and spin. Change-up sat around 65-66 mph with some drop.

+ 2020 Zach Walton, 1B/OF, (MN MASH- Firpo)- RHH. Had quality at bats with a gap to gap approach. Flashed some power with a double to left center gap.  He shows consistent contact and barrel.

+ 2019 Earl Micheal, 3B, (MN MASH- Bergstrom)- Showed pull power with 2 doubles to LC gap. He had quality AB's with a patient approach and looked to drive the ball when ahead in counts.

+ 2020 Reese Lightenberg, 3B, (MN MASH- Hemphill)- LHH with a tall lanky frame and room to grow, showed some opposite field power with a 2B.  He showed consistent contact throughout the game. 

+ 2020 Aidan Byrne, OF, (MN MASH- Hemphill)- Showed speed and consistent hard contact. The LHH outfielder had a couple of hard hit singles, plus a bunt single. He runs the bases well with good instincts.

+ 2020 Levi Jensen, C, (MN Starters 17U- Kunik). Used the whole field in his game.  The RHH hit for power with a double to both the right and left corners. Also put consistent barrel on the ball every at bat with some strength in his bat.

+ 2020 Mac Born, 3B, (MN Starters 17U- Threlkeld)- Born showed off some power with a solo HR to LF.  A RHH infielder with a very strong athletic body. Shows mid/pull approach with pop and patience in the box with a couple of walks.

+ 2020 Blake Mahmood, RHP, (MN Starters 17U- Threlkeld)- sat 84-87 mph with his fastball. Curveball was 67-68 mph with 11-5 break and showed decent shape.  Projectable body on the mound with a loose arm.

+ 2019 Cam Schmidt, 1B, (MN Starters- Mitchell)- The LHH first baseman displayed some pop in his barrel with a double to RC gap.  Mid/pull approach with consistent contact.  He also ran the bases well and aggressive. 

+ 2019 Sam Tanner, (MN Starters- Mitchell)- RHH with a solid middle of the field approach in a couple good at bats.  Tanner has a long lanky frame and showed range defensively.

16U Division

+ 2021 Nolan McCurdy, C, (Great Lakes Black)- Flashed gap power with double and drove in a couple runs in his 2nd game.  McCurdy shows a decent bat path with a gap to gap approach.

+ 2021 Tony Ingram, OF, (Great Lakes Black)- Back to back HR's with 5 RBI. The RHH showed pull pop with both going over LF wall. Also had great discipline at plate by not chasing out of the zone.

+ 2020 Hunter Day, RHP, (Northstar Navy) was solid on the mound. His fastball was 83-85 mph for strikes along with a 73-75 mph slider with solid spin and shape as well as a 76-77 mph change with fade.

+ 2021 Alex Ritzer, SS, (Northstar Navy)- Looks very comfortable in the field.  Shows good actions with sure hands and throws show above avg. carry to bag. 

+ MN MASH- Martin has a couple 2021 LHP’s in Connor Wietgrefe and Nolan Johnson that have projection on the mound.  Wietgrefe throws from ¾ arm slot with good arm action.  His fastball sat 77-79 mph and tops at 81 mph.  Nolan Johnson was 76-78 mph and topped out at 79 mph.  Both arms have room to grow and likely follows in their class on the mound

+ 2021 Ben Taxdahl, C, (MN Mash- Martin)- Big bodied catcher who was solid at the plate. Drove a triple to the LC gap showing pop in the bat. Displayed consistent bat speed and hard contact; as well as arm strength from behind the plate.

15U Division

+ Great Lakes Black has a couple solid 2022 LHH bats in Catchers Zak Goodwin and Miken Miller.  Goodwin showed athleticism in the box with a patient approach.  Miller displayed a smooth swing with rhythm and bat speed; drilling a 3B to the RC gap.

+ Icemen Sutterer’s top of the order was 2022's Kyle Law and Max Morris.  Law has a long projectable frame and showed decent bat speed and strength in his swing.  Morris is a larger framed middle of the order bat.  He shows a gap to gap approach with present strength and decent barrel and bat speed in his game.
