2024 Team Preview: Caldwell Hornets

Prep Baseball Texas Staff

The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Caldwell Hornets bring back a talented, young pitching staff that should help lead the team back to the postseason in 2024. Coach Kyle Toney has a ton of younger players throughout each class to build around for this season and beyond.

The most notable returning senior in 2024 for the Hornets is INF Blane Garza, who remains uncommitted and will be counted upon as the leader of this young squad. The rest of the infield for the Hornets looks to be rounded out by INF Ryan See (2025; uncommitted), C/UTL Hays Beavers (2025; uncommitted), UTL Josh Wilson (2025; uncommitted), and C/UTL Zane Brown (2026). Primarily manning the outfield for Cladwell in 2024 will be junior OF Blane Castaneda (uncommitted) and sophomore OF Coy Becka.

Caldwell will have a trio of young arms to monitor in 2024 in junior RHP Colby Maresh (uncommitted) and sophomores Shane Clements and Chase Faust, with Faust being a projected newcomer to the varsity squad this season. Another potential newcomer to keep an eye on in 2024 for the Hornets is freshman C Jake Hibbeler, who hopes to make an impact on varsity at some point this season to begin his high school career.

After finishing 2023 as 4A Area Finalists, Caldwell should be a playoff contender again this season while still building toward the future with their pitching and youthful roster.
