OSSAA Team Preview: Elk City Elks

Scott Hood and Max Fisher
Oklahoma Staff

Team: Elk City Elks
2023 Record: 34-4
Classification: 4A
Head Coach: Jay McClure
Years at the Helm: 2

Outlook:

The Elk City Elks come into the 2024 with as high of expectations as they have ever had after reaching the Class 4A semifinals in 2023. Elk City has the top end pitching to make another run, including one of the top pitching prospects nationally in the ‘24 class. The Elks have the arms but the question of the bats being able to provide enough support against some of the top teams in the class. If the bats come around and can be consistent by postseason play, don’t be surprised if the Elks are playing on Friday and Saturday during the State Tournament.

Impact Players:

Kash Mayfield, 2024, LHP, Oklahoma State Commit

Mayfield is one of the top LHP prospects in the ‘24 and looks to continue his dominance into his senior season. Mayfield effortlessly commands the FB at 92-94 with ASR using a high 70’s SL and fading CH usually sitting around 80-81 mph. Mayfield projects as a starter at the next level whether it is at Oklahoma State or if he ends up getting selected in this year’s MLB Draft.  On top of all of his prowess on the mound, Mayfield is also one of the better hitters for the ELks and will need to provide a high level of offense to go along with his ability to handle opposing offenses on the mound.

Bryce Mouse, 2025, RHP, Uncommitted

Mouse is a high upside RHP that showed a big jump on the mound when we saw him this past fall at the DFW Fall ID in Texas. Mouse is extremely physical, listed at 6 '6 weighing in at 230 lb. He works the FB at 88-90 and showed three different quality off-speed pitches that show he has a starter profile at the next level. Mouse will be a high follow this spring to see if he continues to develop.

Players To Watch:

Wyatt McConnell, 2025, INF, Uncommitted

Cole Buie, 2025, OF, Uncommitted
