The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Corsicana Tigers, led by Coach Heath Autrey, will have a roster full of young players in 2024 as they try to build off their 5A area-round finish from a year ago. The Tigers will have a few key returners to help lead this young team into 2024 and beyond.

Corsicana’s returners from 2023 will be led by McLennan CC commit, senior OF/RHP Adrian Baston. Baston will be joined by junior INF Blake Phillips (uncommitted), and Coach Autrey’s son, sophomore Texas A&M commit INF/RHP Easton Autrey, as the key returners for the 2024 team. Autrey is currently ranked No. 11 in the state for his class and No. 73 nationally. The left-handed hitting corner infielder put up some impressive hitting metrics for his age at our Texas State Games this fall, and will be a key factor in the Tigers’ success in 2024.

With it being such a young team, there will be plenty of new faces on the diamond for Corsicana this spring. Junior LHP Isaiah Miranda (uncommitted) will lead this group of newcomers that will be filled with underclassmen players. The Tigers will likely welcome five sophomores into the mix in 2024 in two-way players UTL/RHP Brody Dobbs, UTL/RHP Connor Perkins, UTL/RHP Oscar Castaneda, as well as C Josh Portillo and UTL Sean Medrano. The Tigers are also hopeful a pair of freshmen will make an immediate impact this season in INF Blake Taylor and UTL Jaxson Simmington.

The Tigers have a lot to be excited about with their talented returning players, as well as their young newcomers. Look for Corsicana to be a team to watch in the 5A class for this season and going forward as they continue to build for 2024 and beyond.
